just a quick photo didnt try to make it perfect or anything. just spending the holidays with my crazy family!
I didn't break down the large Paul C. Buff Octabox that I used last night, so I thought I'd fire it up again. This time, I wanted to capture a portrait while sitting in my director's chair (a bargain at Lowe's). I wanted the mainlight to come from above while using enough fill to allow for visible detail underneath my cap. Originally, I wanted the shot to look casual, laid back. Unfortunately, the limited space I had to work in means that any part of my body close to the camera became unpleasantly exaggerated (I already have big feet and long legs...no need to exaggerate them). So, to keep things as proportional as possible, I had to lean into the camera. This pose, along with my choice of lighting placement caused the shot to turn out quite a bit more menacing than I had originally intended. That said, I liked the result--which is why I'm posting yet another self-portrait.
strobist: 1 White Lightning Ultrazap 1600, above camera right, 1/16 power, diffused by a Paul C. Buff Large Foldable Octabox with inner and outer diffusion covers and a grid in place. 1 Yongnuo YN560, camera left, 1/64 power, reflected into a white umbrella for fill. 2 Quantarray PZ-1 DSZs, high behind subject (one on each side), 1/64 power, bare, used as rim light. Fill light triggered via Cybersyncs, other flashes triggered via optical slave.

week 34 : WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
What happens at Marj and Kens cottage ends up on a T-Shirt. For this weeks theme it's not exactly the awesome T-shirt that Marj made me after I walked thru their screen door on the last visit that makes me happy. It's that it represents all the good times and memories I've made this summer with friends and family. True happiness can't be bought ( Unless your buying me new camera gear) its the good times of friendship and family
have a great week friends

Maher and I decided to set up a test shoot right smack-dab in the middle of Broad Steet. Yes, we were litterally in the middle of the road. We had to move out of the way everytime a car came down the street. It was slightly dangerous, but creatively rewarding. ;-)
While Maher and I were shooting, a group of young people walked by. They seemed interested in what we were doing, so I invited them to hop into the crosswalk and pose for a few shots. This was my favorite from that particular series.
