Its kind of cool how you can see the texture of the jeans.
I don't like.... I don't like.... the picture???? Er, I don't think that counts. I don't like how bland I think it is. It has no "life."
Objective- this was for my narrative roll. I wanted to convey a depressing like vibe of a teen on the streets. Subject- Rachel's face. Approach- was just to get her face and nothing else. I wanted the focal point to be the emotion she was conveying so I used a shallow depth of field. It snowed that day, so i left the small bits of snow in the photo bc I feel like it helps with the mood.
2013 Exodus Place Exodus Place is a transitional housing facility for men facing homelessness, including military veterans, men who have been in prison and men who are coming out of any hopeless situation. Our objective is to get them back on their feet by providing housing, counseling, employment assistance, 3 meals a day, mentoring and much more. We believe that with the right tools at their disposal, they can get their lives back on track. Exodus Place promotes "A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out".
Objective 3: Composition Techniques – Use the guide on the website
Rule of Thirds - The cup is not totally in center of the image, making it more appealing to the eye.
Backgrounds - The background in this image is simple, focused near the bottom and more blurred near the top so it does not distract the eye.
Pattern - The pattern found in the image is the pattern of the ground (background). A sequence of small slightly different shaped, and coloured squares.
Colour - With this image I tried for a black and white image with only the dyed water as visible colour.
Objective 4: Lighting (side, back, soft, hard, fill)
Soft lighting.
Objective 5: Post Production (resize, contrast, sharpening, and others you have done)
For this image I did sharpening, created a black and white layer, and used the brush tool to bring back colour in certain spots.

Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement (consider composition, lighting, exposure, overall feel, etc.)
Strength: Ability to have an object the main focus of the image.
Area for growth: Take more interesting photos.

The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M) and why I chose it: AV, I wanted to control my depth of field
f stop used and why: 5.6 I wanted a long depth of field
shutter speed used and why: 1/10 the camera controlled it for me
ISO used and why: 200 because that is the recommended outdoor ISO
Exposure compensation and why it was used: none. I should have used a – exposure
Focal length and why: 34mm because it was the right composition for me.

Line- curved lines give the photo a relaxed feeling. Converging lines give the photo depth
Colour- the cool greens contrast the warm brown of the trail.
Shape- many organic shapes work with a photo of nature.

unity/harmony- everything in my photo goes well together and fits nicely

Corrections/adjustments made: I added a curves layer; I resized the photo and added sharpening.

I happen to think that assholes like this, who remind us that knowledge is not as absolute as we thought, make it very difficult for us to ever have any meaningful conversations. Consequently, I enjoyed the next exhibit: alcohol and meaningless sex
Yesterday I introduced the week's theme as 'strangers' - the objective was to take pictures of people I don't know. Today's specific objective was to ask their permission before doing so. I had high hopes as others (Scott Bourne, Rick Sammon) have said that they rarely get turned down.
I took the plunge and approached five people and asked them if I could take their picture briefly explaining it was for a photo assignment. After varying degrees of thought, each of them pleasantly turned me down. All of them even apologized for declining. I thanked each of them for considering my request. It was after the second rejection that I came to realize that even if I didn't get a picture for the day, I would still satisfy the most important parts of the assignment; I was out scouting for participants; Looking at the potential compositions; Looking at the light; visualizing the result; and engaging with the subjects. The only thing I didn't do was press the shutter!
I don't know why they turned me down. In my opinion, I was pleasant, polite, even genial. The lens I had mounted was my honking big 70-200. But I tried to keep it mostly concealed in my jacket, thinking that the size of the lens might scare them away. They would have been able to see the camera body, but not the lens. I think I'll try again with my 24-105 which is a lot smaller and I'll have the camera fully visible when I approach them.
Fortunately I did find these four guys who didn't turn me down! They kept on doing exactly what they were doing before I approached them.
P.S. To the five people who turned me down. You will likely never read see words, but regardless "Thank You" for our brief chat today.

It's movie time! After grabbing some food, we've decided to watch a new movie, Man of Steel.
This is objective time, specifically the "scene time" type of objective time. This is a small part of an event that usually takes place in the same location during a sequence of time. Although this photo does not capture the entire length of the movie, it is perceived that we will be here for a designated amount of time to watch the movie.

Two family members beat the heat on King Drive on Sunday afternoon. The weather is only expected to increase in intensity over the next few days.
Type/style of photography: Photojournalism. It is photojournalism because it depicts people who aren't posed, and nothing has altered the photo.

shutter speed used: 1/25
ISO used: 100. I used 100 because it was a very bright day.
exposure compensation: 0
focal length: 27.0 mm. I chose this focal length because I wanted to have both people in the photo and make it obvious that a conversation was happening.
