Photo #5

Objective 4: Lighting (side, back, soft, hard, fill)

Types of lighting and how they contribute to the image: This image has soft light giving it a more flattering look on the subject and keeping the features and the shadows soft.

Objective 7: Photographic Styles (ex. portrait, landscape, etc.) – Explain why the settings and composition are appropriate for the style of photography. (How did you create the shot?)

Type/style of photography: Portrait. This portrait is a tradition “mug shot”/ school picture. This is a portrait because it is a representation of someone.

The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M): M

f stop used: f/5.6 this makes sure the camera focuses on the subject and the eyes not the make ground

shutter speed used: 1/50 I used a fairly slow shutter speed to keep the skin looking softer and help reduce noise in the image

ISO used: 1600. This helped my capture the perfect amount of light.

Focal length: 55mm to keep from distorting the face and make certain features (nose chin) from looking too large.

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design

The principles of design demonstrated (describe the use): This photo shows emphasis because the yellow buttercup is very obvious on the green background. This makes it very clear what the main subject of the picture is and the viewers eyes are immediately drawn to the flower and its intricate petals. This picture also demonstrates contrast between the two colours because they are so very unlike each other.

The elements of design demonstrated (describe the use): Line is present in this photo because the stem is visible. The stem curves away from the flower down to the bottom of the photograph. This is a somewhat leading line because it goes from the edge of the photograph to the flower. Also, colour is in this picture. The flower stands out from the green background with its yellow petals. Form is another element visible in the picture. The flower is round and all the seperate petals on the flower are also circles. The last element in this picture is texture. All the many petals together give a very textured feel to the flower and makes the flower and the picture more interesting.

Objective 4: Lighting

Type of lighting and why: The type of lighting is soft, diffused lighting coming from the left-hand side. Side lighting is also involved, hence the last sentence.

This is the finished version of this image.

The biggest difference is that the dull coat has removed the shininess.

Before making a non-objective painting to music, we did just any non-objective painting. I had done one really quickly but I didn't like it, but I found a large paint brush and started swirling it in a circle since I had used a bunch of nice colors for my first drawing. I kept doing that with a couple brushes and added the black background. It looks a lot better in person. I like it.

My entry for the Objective category.
