Objective So we walked along the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica, California with about 20 different signs and asked people to pick one that described their attitude or feelings for the day. What we got was pretty amazing.
Comments "So this man was really funny. He found us as he was walking up the street with a few women (one presumably being his wife) and stopped to see what we were doing. After recruiting the fellow for a shot, he began to rifle through the stack of signs and landed on the "Cool." page. His wife quickly laughed and asked him to go through the signs again and he changed his mind to the "Republican." His lady friends giggled and suggested that he take the "Gay." as well, and a few moments before this photograph was made, they handed him a purse, howling in laughter. I imagine he is thinking, "What are they going to think of me now.." What a trooper."
There are about 20 more people in this set, all with different signs. More to be added soon. And prints will be available in a week or so.

This shot shows the add task sheet, which is revealed when the user clicks the tick button in the top-right-hand-corner of the list window. Here, you can specify the title of the task you want to add, along with selecting an iCal calendar to add the task into. After filling in the title field, selecting a calendar and hitting the Add button, the sheet is dismissed and the list window smooth-resizes to accommodate the new item. Meanwhile, the small calendar icon with the plus symbol is in fact a button, which lets you create a new calendar from within Anxiety, which you can then select to organize your tasks into.
Under the Swastika
In the history of the Friends of the Kunsthalle too the seizure of power by the Nazis is a deep cut. The Nazi regime developed a practice of arts funding which was marked by the mandatory relationship of art and state.
The enforced conformity of friends meant the loss of independence and the orientation of the association's activities to the objectives of the National Socialist government. Decisive for this change of course, was the board meeting on 10 June 1933. The poet and art historian Wilhelm Niemeyer played the key role as the representative of the Militant League for German Culture (Kampfbund). The Kampfbund was a Nazi-oriented organization which represented a nationalist-racist concept of art. Although Niemeyer since 1927 no longer belonged to the board of the association, he participated against the resistance of Gustav Pauli and the other board members at the meeting to introduce a list of the Executive Board drawn up by the Kampfbund.
As a result of the meeting Pauli on the same day sent a list of candidates for the election of the new board of the Friends to the Kampfbund. This was his last official act for the Friends of the Kunsthalle. The new board then was no longer elected but appointed by the First Mayor Carl Vincent Krogmann and was completely re-assembled, with two exceptions.
New chairman became Hermann Maetzig who also headed the official business at the Kunsthalle from the beginning of October, Pauli in late September 1933 as director of the Kunsthalle was sent into retirement. On the part of the club members, there was no opposition against the replacement of the Board, they confirmed this one after a short debate on their general meeting on 31 October 1933.
The era Maetzig did not last long. Already in April 1934, he had to give up all offices for belonging to the Freemasons. His successor Wilhelm Freiherr Kleinschmit of Lengefeld remained until August 1937 executive director of the Kunsthalle and Chairman of Friends. In the action "degenerate art" to which the set up by Pauli collection of modern art in the summer of 1937 fell victim he did not participate. However, in the tenure of Kleinschmit fell the exclusion of Jewish club members. This marks the blackest chapters in the history of the club.
At the beginning of 1936, the Statute of friends was officially completed by an "Aryan paragraph". But already at the end of the fiscal year 1935, the Jewish members had been forced to leave the club. In September 1935, the new program of events was sent with a message of Kleinschmit. It was said there, the membership card will be issued only to those persons who signed a statement that they were "Aryans".
Alone in September and October 1935, 29 Jewish donors, so financially particularly committed members, had to leave the club. Among them are such famous names as Bleichröder, Budge or Warburg. In addition, there were also about 100 regular members who had been excluded. Against this background is hardly surprising that the number of members of the Friends in 1936 with 1,124 members reached a historic low.
The lecture program of friends during the Nazi period designed primarily Wilhelm Niemeyer, who was secretary of the association since August 1933. As already Pauli, he also succeeded to win a number of known German art historians. Speeches were held by university professors as Hans Jantzen, Hans Kauffmann or the befriended with Niemeyer, Wilhelm Pinder. Although the Kunsthalle was closed at the beginning of World War II to the public, the friends continued to offer lectures. Those ones, however, unlike as in the days of the Weimar Republic, as regards contents offered only little direct references to the collection fund of the Kunsthalle.

Auch in der Geschichte der Freunde der Kunsthalle stellt die Machtergreifung der Nationalsozialisten einen tiefen Einschnitt dar. Das NS-Regime entwickelte eine Praxis der Kunstförderung, die durch die zwangsweise Verbindung von Kunst und Staat gekennzeichnet war.
Die Gleichschaltung der Freunde bedeutete den Verlust der Selbstständigkeit und die Ausrichtung der Vereinsaktivitäten auf die Ziele der nationalsozialistischen Regierung. Entscheidend für diesen Kurswechsel wurde die Vorstandssitzung am 10. Juni 1933. Der Dichter und Kunsthistoriker Wilhelm Niemeyer spielte als Repräsentant des Kampfbundes für deutsche Kultur die maßgebliche Rolle. Der Kampfbund war eine NSDAP-nahe Organisation, die einen völkisch-rassistischen Kunstbegriff vertrat. Obwohl Niemeyer seit 1927 nicht mehr dem Vorstand des Vereins angehörte, nahm er gegen den Widerstand Gustav Paulis und der übrigen Vorstandsmitglieder an der Sitzung teil, um eine vom Kampfbund erstellte Vorstandsliste einzubringen.
Als Ergebnis der Sitzung schickte Pauli noch am selben Tag eine Vorschlagliste für die Wahl des neuen Vorstandes der Freunde an den Kampfbund. Dies war seine letzte Amtshandlung für die Freunde der Kunsthalle. Der neue Vorstand wurde dann nicht mehr gewählt, sondern vom Ersten Bürgermeister Carl Vincent Krogmann bestimmt und war bis auf zwei Ausnahmen völlig neu zusammengesetzt.
Neuer Vorsitzender wurde Hermann Maetzig, der ab Anfang Oktober auch die Amtsgeschäfte in der Kunsthalle leitete; Pauli wurde Ende September 1933 als Direktor der Kunsthalle in den Ruhestand versetzt. Von Seiten der Vereinsmitglieder gab es keinerlei Widerstände gegen die Neubesetzung des Vorstandes, sie bestätigten diesen nach kurzer Aussprache auf ihrer Mitgliederversammlung am 31. Oktober 1933.
Die Ära Maetzig währte nicht lange. Bereits im April 1934 musste er wegen seiner Zugehörigkeit zu den Freimaurern alle Ämter aufgeben. Sein Nachfolger Wilhelm Freiherr Kleinschmit von Lengefeld blieb bis August 1937 verantwortlicher Leiter der Kunsthalle und Vorsitzender der Freunde. An der Aktion „entartete Kunst“, der im Sommer 1937 die von Pauli aufgebaute Sammlung der Moderne zum Opfer fiel, war er allerdings nicht beteiligt. In Kleinschmits Amtszeit kam es jedoch zum Ausschluss der jüdischen Vereinsmitglieder. Dies markiert das schwärzeste Kapitel in der Geschichte des Vereins.
Zu Beginn des Jahres 1936 wurde die Satzung der Freunde offiziell um einen „Arierparagraphen“ ergänzt. Doch bereits am Ende des Geschäftsjahres 1935 hatten die jüdischen Mitglieder den Verein verlassen müssen. Im September 1935 wurde das neue Veranstaltungsprogramm mit einer Mitteilung Kleinschmits versandt. Dort hieß es, die Mitgliedskarte werde nur an solche Personen ausgestellt, die eine Erklärung unterschrieben, dass sie „ arischer Abstammung“ seien.
Allein 29 jüdische Stifter, also finanziell besonders engagierte Mitglieder, mussten im September und Oktober 1935 den Verein verlassen. Unter ihnen finden sich so berühmte Namen wie Bleichröder, Budge oder Warburg. Hinzu kamen noch ungefähr 100 ordentliche Mitglieder, die ausgeschlossen wurden. Vor diesem Hintergrund verwundert wenig, dass die Mitgliederzahl der Freunde im Jahr 1936 mit 1.124 Mitgliedern einen historischen Tiefststand erreichte.

Es sprachen Universitätsprofessoren wie Hans Jantzen, Hans Kauffmann oder der mit Niemeyer befreundete Wilhelm Pinder. Obwohl die Kunsthalle mit Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges für das Publikum geschlossen wurde, boten die Freunde weiterhin Vorträge an. Diese wiesen allerdings – anders als zu Zeiten der Weimarer Republik – inhaltlich nur wenig direkte Bezüge zum Sammlungsbestand der Kunsthalle auf

Solar Spectrum during total eclipse, Objective Mounted Diffraction Grating, OMD EM5, 150mm, iso200. Taken through aircraft window which caused significant distortion. Helium was first discovered on the Sun from the prominent Helium line indicated. The green Coronal band (label Iron 13) was initially considerecd to represent a new element (Coroninum) but was later identified as Iron thirteen times ionised at 1.5 X10^6 K - establishing the high temperature of the Solar Corona which is still being explained and conjectured about. The PRIME project was the second part of the Spacecraft Technology and Advanced Re-entry Tests (START) program. It had the dual objective of testing advances in space hardware and further exploring the development of manned and unmanned lifting body vehicles. Four SV-5D vehicles were built by the Martin Co. to fulfill the objectives of the PRIME program. Outside the earth's atmosphere, the SV-5D was maneuvered by the release of high pressure nitrogen through jet thrusters. When the craft re-entered the atmosphere, its control system automatically switched to airplane-type flaps for pitch and roll control.

University of Alaska Army ROTC cadets maneuver to their objective during an air assault training event at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Dec. 2, 2022. The CLCC recently completed and approved our first science planning document titled, CLCC Science Strategy: Mission Alignment, as an initial step toward identifying shared conservation priorities. While the document met its stated objectives, Steering Committee (SC) members and outside reviewers have suggested the next step is to develop a framework for implementation. To carry out this step, SC members approved the use of a process called Structured Decision-Making (SDM). SDM is a formal, prescriptive, values-based method for analyzing a decision by breaking the decision into components. The specific process used in the workshop is called “PrOACT,” which refers to the decision components: Problem, Objectives, Alternatives, Consequences, and Tradeoffs. For the purposes of the CLCC, SDM provides a tool for achieving transparent, purposeful, and collaborative co-production of conservation—specifically, multi-partner landscape conservation design (LCD) for the Caribbean region.
To begin working through PrOACT the SC spent four days in El Yunque National Forest with decision support coaches Angela Romero and Mitch Aid (US FWS), Peter Freeman (USVI Independent Consulant) and Wanda Crespo (Estudio Technicos, Inc).
The objectives of this face to face meeting were to (1) introduce participating SC members to the SDM process so that they are comfortable with the process, its application, and its usefulness; (2) Frame “The Problem” SC members are jointly addressing (i.e., Step 1 of PrOACT); and (3) Develop a set of actionable “Objectives” based on CLCC shared values and priorities (i.e., Step 2 of PrOACT).
Steering Committee members agreed upon the following Decision Statement:
“The Caribbean LCC Steering Committee will develop and implement coordinated, efficient, and effective landscape-scale conservation design and strategy to conserve, restore and sustain ecological and cultural resources and services and human well-being in the Caribbean inside and outside of CLCC jurisdictional boundaries. The CLCC recognizes the following constraints and uncertainties: political and social environments, finances, multiple decision making authorities, diverse values, competing priorities, and climatic and ecological dynamics.”
The CLCC Steering Committee recognized themselves as the focal decision-makers and the organizations they represent as the implementers. The decision timeframe includes a 5-10 year planning horizon, 10-20 year implementation period (to institutionalize LCD), and the impacts of decisions will range from the present to 60 years to quasi-infinite. The group also agreed that the region of interest is the “terrestrial and marine components within the EEZ of the U.S. Caribbean, and Navassa Island, with consideration of relevant drivers, policies and impacts originating in the wider Caribbean region. The wider Caribbean is defined by UNEP.”
The Steering Committee also agreed upon four Fundamental Objectives, which will frame all future collaborative efforts of the CLCC (no particular order):
Maximize use of available operational resources
Maximize public satisfaction and well-being
Maximize the structure and function of aquatic and terrestrial resources
Maximize the integrity of cultural and historic resources
The Steering Committee agreed to create Tiger Teams, or subteams with a specific short-term task, to flesh out specific objectives and indicators for each of the Fundamental objectives.

Helen Clark began her visit to Azerbaijan. She gave a briefing to the press on the objectives of the visit at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In the briefing, Helen Clark expressed satisfaction for seeing Azerbaijan as a middle-income country and stressed the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between the UNDP and Azerbaijan.
The purpose of the visit is to further deepen the existing cooperation in the areas of mutual interest and explore new opportunities for innovative partnerships between Azerbaijan and UNDP. Helen Clark will attend the IV Baku International Humanitarian Forum to be held in Baku on 2-3 October 2014 and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the event. She will meet with high-level government officials, women politicians, the UN Country Team, and representatives of some of the diplomatic missions in the country.
The UNDP Administrator also plans to visit Symgayit city. She will stop by at the Syslab Center, established in the framework of a joint UNDP and Norwegian Government’s project and the ASAN Service, created by the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovation, a unique experience that can be shared with other middle-income as well as low-income countries.
Helen Clark became the UNDP Administrator in April 2009, and is the first woman to lead the organization. She is also the Chair of the United Nations Development Group, a committee consisting of the Heads of all UN funds, programmes and departments working on development issues. Prior to her appointment as UNDP Administrator, she had been the Prime Minister of New Zealand, serving from 1999 to 2008. Helen Clark was the first woman elected as the Prime Minister, and was the fifth longest serving person to hold that office. Recognizing her influence as the Head of UNDP agency, Forbes Magazine Helen Clark as one of the world’s 100 most powerful women and “the most powerful woman in the United Nations.”

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
The principles of design demonstrated:
Emphasis: The background is blurry and the flower is clear which brings it out. Since the flower in the photo is on the rule of thirds and it’s really big it really pops it out and draws the person to it. The background is neatly lined up without clutter which makes the photo more exciting.
Contrast: In the photo all the different areas have their own colors as in the flower is yellow, and the sky is a bluish white. With the different colors it draws the flower out because it doesn’t blend in with the background. The dark spots, I find make this photo more beautiful because they make the bright colors so defined.
Balance: Even though flower is the main vocal point it doesn’t keep your eyes on it because of all the other colors they make you look over to them and since there is various colors all around the eye will look to all of them. With this photo it is an asymmetric balance.
The elements of design demonstrated:
Line: There are mostly curved lines in this one like on the flowers. If they were purely strait they wouldn’t be nice to look at but since they are nice and curvy which makes it more beautiful. There is vertical line like in the background the trees which is nice that they aren’t all bent over and broken because that would destroy the beauty in the photo. I like the curved clouds up top because it can be boring with just straight lines.
Color: This photo shows more of the start of the end of summer. Where the flower is bright which makes you also to look at all the other pretty colors as in the blue sky it looks very nice. The photo has a very welcoming atmosphere which was what I tried to make this photo to be.
Texture: I think the photo in general is soft but on the flower it’s more fluffy than rough I like how when the light in the background shows a smooth surface. The softness in the picture makes it welcoming which I much prefer than to have many rough spots in my photos.
Shape: I find that the flower creates life in to this photo which makes this photo interesting to look at because without anything living with just some buildings it wouldn’t have the same effect that this photo gives. I also think that the fly just totally adds to the photo because it makes it not loom more dead, as in it shows that wild life are around and it’s just not a dead so all in all they add way more to making this photo interesting for a person to stop and look at it.
Objective 4: Lighting
Type of lighting and why:
I chose the light in the background so it makes the flowers give a little bit of a glow. Also since the clouds are mostly covering the light so the photo isn’t bright but everything is still lit up.
Objective 5: Post productions
Resized the image; I also changed the shadow highlights to cover more of the light from the sun. I increased the saturation; I increased the light and darkened the dark spots just I bit. I used Gaussian blur to make the background more blurry to really focus on the flower. On the front part of the flower I sharpened it to pop it out.
Objective 6: Critique
Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement (consider elements and principles of design, lighting, exposure, overall feel, etc.)
Strengths:
-I was able to have nothing distracting in the background to make you miss the thing I want the person to look at.
-I made it so the photo looked better but not make the person go and say that this photo is totally fake.
-I was able to make the fly noticeable so it wasn’t just a tiny little spec in the photo that would look like a mistake.
Weaknesses:
-I think I could have eased up on the saturation to make even more realistic.
-I could have cleaned up the clouds a bit more so it doesn’t look all weird.

I drove our side by side to the other side of the lake with my brother and his friend (the one in the picture) and I let them do whatever they wanted while I took pictures, and I ended up getting this shot. It was sunset on a clear night, so there was a nice hard light coming in from the side that outlined him in the photo, and the blues of his clothes help him stand out from the trees in the background. I didn’t stage the shot or ask them to move, I just let them do as they pleases, and I took pictures of it.
