Totally, there are 1250 species of bamboo or more belonged to 150 genera with a bamboo forest area of 1700 million ha. in the world, among which, there are more than 500 species belonging to 39 genera with a bamboo forest area of 500 million ha. in China, or about 1/3 of the world total, therefore, China is reputed as a "Bamboo Kingdom". China not only is a big country of bamboo resources, but also has already accumulated so much experience in bamboo research, exploitation, production, and management, etc., as a result, has been in advanced position of the world in many aspects of bamboo, especially marked achievements have been scored in bamboo integrated processing and utilization. The total production value of bamboo sector in China in 1999 is over US$ 2.2 billion. Bamboo sector has been becoming a new sunrising industry.
China National Bamboo Research Center (CBRC) was established in 1988 in Hangzhou, a picturesque city in eastern China, which is located in one of the China's biggest bamboo grown centers, and well-known for its West Lake. CBRC has three missions as enshrined by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Administration of Forestry: (a) to undertake, organize and coordinate major international and domestic bamboo projects of research and exploitation; (b) to undertake international technical and economic exchange and cooperation and personnel training in bamboo; and (c) to be managed and operated by modality of share-holding and gradually grow into a locomotive and backbone enterprise of China's bamboo sector so as to enhance China bamboo industry as a whole.
In order to disseminate bamboo technology, CBRC has already held with success several training courses/workshops entrusted by United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC), P.R. China, etc.
"2001 China TCDC International Training Course on Bamboo Technology" is the course sponsored by the Chinese Government. CBRC is entrusted by the MOFTEC to organize this training course. We should invite famous experts, professors all over the China, even an academician to give lectures.
1. Objectives
Participants are required to master the basic theories and principles of cultivation, processing and utilization of bamboo so as to enhance their awareness and capacity of integrated development of bamboo, and create a chance leading to further mutual fruitful exchange and cooperation.

The evaluation for the participants will be done on the basis of written tests, field practice, site study and comprehensive performance. Successful completion of the training program will lead to a diploma offered by CBRC. The allotment of marks will be as follows: a) Written tests 50% b) Comprehensive performance 50%
9. Participant's Qualifications and Requirements for Admission
Participants are requested: 1) To be nominated by his/her related government department; 2) To be less than 45 years old, better with a minimum educational background of college graduate, better with an agriculture, forestry and bamboo background and with a minimum of two years' practice in the relative profession; 3) To be in good health conditions with no infectious diseases and not handicapped. Physically fit to completing all course activities; 4) To be proficient in English reading, listening, speaking and writing; 5) To prepare a review paper or report on the bamboo (forestry) production or research of the participant's country and brief introduction of the participant's professional experiences for the purpose of experiences exchange; 6) Not to bring family members to the training course; and 7) To observe all the laws, rules and regulations of P. R. China and respect the Chinese customs during the training period.
10. Training Expenses
1) The expenses of training, boarding and lodging, local transportation, pocket money of RMB 30 Yuan per person per day during the training period in China will be borne by the Chinese Government and distributed by CBRC. 2) The International travel costs including round trip tickets, transit fares are to be covered by the participants themselves, or their respective Governments, or their employers or sponsored by some international organizations, like UNDP, ESCAP, FAO, etc. through proper application and consultations. 3) The expenses of medical care, insurance and domestic salaries for the participants are to be borne by the participants' governments.
11. Application and Admission
1) The applicants should be nominated by their respective Governments. The nominated participants are requested to fill up the Application Forms, which should be endorsed by the departments concerned of their respective Governments, and submit with valid Health Certificates provided by authorized physicians or hospitals to the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of the Chinese Embassy ( ECCOCE ) for examination, recommendation and endorsement; 2) After endorsed by the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office of the Chinese Embassy, Admission Notices will be issued to the accepted participants by the ECCOCE through the related governmental departments of the participants. With the Admission Notices, the participants are requested to go through all necessary formalities for entering into China and bring all the documents like Admission Notices, Application Forms, Health Certificates to China for attending the Course on time.
12. Insurance
The training course organizer dose not hold any responsibility for such risks as loss of life, accidents, illness, loss of properties incurred by the participants during the training period.

This projects objective was to monumentalize ourself somehow. Most of the class went with objects like the teacher suggested, but I didn't want to do that. He left it open ended so I picked one of my most basic opinions on life and how passionate I am about my opinion.
I used to think people were basically bad before good. I don't know where I stand on that issue now, it's more leaning towards "people are basically stupid and selfish." We are allowed to be stupid because we are born that way, but there's no fucking excuse for staying that way. We're allowed to be selfish from time to time because it's our lives we are trying to better. I still think humanity is all sorts of evil though. Just not sure if it's the majority..
I think everyone has the capacity to kill, be it for justice, revenge, self defense, whatever. If someone hurt a member of my family (brother, dad, mom) I would want to fucking murder them, and I think you're inhuman if you think otherwise. A TINY SHRED OF YOU better have feelings of revenge and wrath. If someone attacks you, you better not just lie there and take it, we are survivalists, nothing is worse than being dead because it takes away everything you'll ever become. The lighting was inspired from the Hostel 2 poster and a particular scene from Dexter (big surprise I love the serial killer who kills bad guys) season 2 outside of Lila's apartment. When I see those images, I think about all of this.
I chose the shirt because Between the Buried and Me has a beautiful song called Arsonist which is basically about burning down the Westboro Baptist Church, all those fuckers deserve to die for brainwashing those children and for their hateful protests.

The purpose was to digitally document the cultural heritage of Green Gulch Zen Center with the objective of gaining better insight into the Zen Center's cultural history through the use of photographic technology.
Green Gulch Farm Zen Center (Latitude 37.86657, Longitude -122.56528), also referred to as the Green Dragon Temple, is located in Marin County, CA in a beautiful coastal valley overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Green Gulch, approximately a 10 mile drive north of San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, is located on 115 acres surrounded by hundreds of acres of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Green Gulch is a cultural heritage site constituting of one of the three centers that form the San Francisco Zen Center founded by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi [1]. In 1972, Green Gulch was purchased from George Wheelwright, co-founder of Polaroid, as a part of Shunryu Suzuki Roshi's vision to obtain a farm near the San Francisco Bay area where a community of Zen Buddhist practitioners could communally live and practice in accompany of one another [2] [3]. Part of the Wheelwright's stipulation of the sale to the San Francisco Zen Center was that the farm must forever remain open to the public, as well as partake in agricultural awareness [4]. Green Gulch now serves as a Buddhist practice center in the Japanese Soto Zen tradition, were their endeavor is to awaken the people residing, working, and visiting the center in the bodhisattva spirit-the spirit of kindness and realistic helpfulness [1]. Green Gulch is compromised of a temple (the Zendo), organic farm and garden, guesthouse, and conference center. The center offers training and practice in Zen mediation through workshops and retreats, as well as apprenticeships emphasizing meditation practice, Buddhist teachings, and organic gardening and farming methods [5].
Photographs in this collection were captured on Sunday April 24, 2011, between 11:30 AM and 2:15 PM Pacific Time, under sunny conditions. Nixon D80 and two-Canon XSI cameras were used. A tripod was used for HDR shots. The photos were post-processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.

Oval shape is the Objective Window with Index Prism inside. Silver square with round hole is the Bubble Dome with a Diffuser on top and the Bubble Control knob to the right. The mount at the bottom is for electrical power. The Start lever is for the Averaging Mechanism. Here's its definition:The averaging device assembly is a contributory mechanism used to obtain automatically the average reading for 60 sights on an observed celestial body during a two minute interval. The purpose of the averaging device is to reduce any error in the final mean reading, due to the uneven acceleration of the bubble in a moving aircraft, and to one or more inaccurate sights in a series. At the end of two minutes, the mechanism stops, throwing a shutter into the optical path of the sextant assembly. Basically, the averaging device consists of an averaging mechanism gear train, a spring driven clock mechanism, and a counter
I bought this sextant at a garage sale. The gentleman selling it said his Grandfather was a Navigator on a bomber during WWII, but had few other details. I don't know if this sextant is a WWII era one or not, but it certainly looks like it could be. I believe this type of sextant was used up until the Vietnam War. From what I've researched the MA-2 sextant could be used on all bombers but was more common on smaller ones, like the B-25 bomber, which had limited space.

In order to perform celestial navigation, it is necessary to have some sort of device with which to determine the altitude of celestial bodies. That device is the sextant. The Air Force has several types of bubble sextants.
The MA-2 is a hand held bubble sextant for use in aircraft where space will not permit installing an automatic or periscopic sextant. The main body of the sextant, including the controls, averager, and bubble control, are identical to the periscopic sextant. The MA-2 is also provided with a hook for use in astrodomes of older aircraft. The sextant has a field of vision of 12½° and is capable of measuring altitudes from -10° to +92°. The averager provides an average altitude accurate to two minutes of arc over any period of time from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The MA-2 sextant has four main systems: the horizon, the optical, the altitude recording and averaging, and the electrical system. All systems, other than the optical system, are identical to the periscopic sextant.
Optical System. Light entering the objective window passes through the index prism, objective lens system, and filters, as shown in accompanying diagram. It is then directed to the eye by a pentaroof fixed prism and forms a real image at the focal plane of the field lens. On the field lens is a reticle, consisting of a vertical and horizontal line, which indicates the center of the field. The focal plane of the eyepiece lens system coincides with that of the field lens and reticle. The eyepiece may be adjusted for focus by rotating the knob directly behind the rubber eyepiece.
Daylight for the illumination of the bubble enters through the diffuser at the top of the bubble chamber. The image of the bubble passes downward through an objective lens and through the pellicle to a retro-reflector. I t is then reflected to the pellicle which in turn reflects it to the focal plane of the main optical system. If the diffuser prevents the entrance of sufficient daylight for the illumination of the bubble, artificial illumination is provided by a 28-volt lamp controlled by a rheostat.

Objective 3: Elements and Principals of Design
Line: the baseball has curved lines, the red stitching. The colour change in the two reds the light red and the dark red there is a vertical line in between the two colour changes
Colour: the colour is red I took the photo and a red fence and the baseball stitching is red. I took the photo of the baseball on the fence because I though the red and the red from the baseball went together.
Space: the negative open space on the left hand side of the photo makes the positive space more interesting than the negative. It makes the eye focus on the ball not the negative space.
Shape: the shape is the baseball the baseball is circle and underneath the ball it is rectangle kind of.
Texture: there’s a soft rough texture the red makes it rough but it also makes it soft because there is light reds in the colour. And the white of the baseball makes even more surf texture.
Balance: it is balanced by the red stitching and the red fence. There aren’t two different colours trying to go against each other.
Contrast: the darkness in the right hand side of the photo doesn’t have a lot of contrast in it. It’s just dark and on the other side of the photo it has some contrast but not a lot, where the contrast is? At the bottom of the two different red colours right there because it bright but not too bright.
Unity/Harmony: the red and the red from the baseball stitching make unity and harmony and sweet and simple.
Objective 4 Lighting
Type of lighting and why: the type of lighting is harsh when I took the photo I was outside and the sun was shining very bright.
Objective 5 Post-Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)Corrections/adjustments made AND/OR techniques applied: In the original photo I resized it, I added brightness because the dark red was made from water on the fence and that’s also why there is dark and light parts of the photo, I edited contrast into the photo because there was no contrast in the original photo, I didn’t sharpen the photo because I didn’t think of it and I didn’t think I needed it also.
Objective 6 Critiquing
Next time I think I would try to get rid of more negative space, and I would also get rid of the dark and light reds, that’s not saying I don’t like it I do, what I think I did well is the reds because there’s no two different colour in the photo it is just one colour.
A "space artifact" which has really faint stars in the orb part (hard to see under the light), a comm center, an ammo dump, a fuel dump and a dig site which has a skull in the pit which you can't see from this angle.
Our first objective was to climb these little pinnacles on the left. Ferda and I climbed the easier one on the left while Isaac and Ayax tackled the one on the right.

The Millennium Link was an ambitious £84.5m project with the objective of restoring navigability across Scotland on the historic Forth & Clyde Canal and Union Canal, providing a corridor of regenerative activity through central Scotland.
A major challenge faced, was to link the Forth and Clyde Canal, which lay 35m (115ft) below the level of the Union Canal. Historically, the two canals had been joined at Falkirk by a flight of 11 locks that stepped down across a distance of 1.5km, but these has been dismantled in 1933, breaking the link.
What was required was a method of connecting these two canals by way of a boat lift. British Waterways were keen to present a visionary solution taking full advantage of the opportunity to create a truly spectacular and fitting structure that would suitably commemorate the Millennium and act as an iconic symbol for years to come.
The Falkirk Wheel lies at the end of a reinforced concrete aqueduct that connects, via the Roughcastle tunnel and a double staircase lock, to the Union Canal. Boats entering the Wheel’s upper gondola are lowered, along with the water that they float in, to the basin below. At the same time, an equal weight rises up, lifted in the other gondola. This works on the Archimedes principle of displacement. That is, the mass of the boat sailing into the gondola will displace an exactly proportional volume of water so that the final combination of ‘boat plus water’ balances the original total mass.
Each gondola runs on small wheels that fit into a single curved rail fixed on the inner edge of the opening on each arm. In theory, this should be sufficient to ensure that they always remain horizontal, but any friction or sudden movement could cause the gondola to stick or tilt. To ensure that this could never happen and that the water and boats always remain perfectly level throughout the whole cycle, a series of linked cogs acts as a back up.

The Campaign for Vicksburg
The primary strategic objective of the Union in the western theater of the Civil War was to obtain full control of the entire course of the Mississippi River, thus making it available for Northern commerce. Also, Union control of the Mississippi would geographically cut the Confederacy in two. By the winter of 1862-63, Union control had been established as far south as Vicksburg, and as far north as Baton Rouge. However, the Confederacy had retained control of the Mississippi between those points by holding powerful fortresses at Vicksburg and Port Hudson.
Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton commanded the Confederate Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant commanded the Union Army of the Tennessee. Both assumed command during October 1862 and both were West Pointers. Grant’s initial offensive to gain control of the Mississippi using the railroads of western Mississippi as a main supply line failed on 20 December 1862 when Confederate cavalry destroyed his base of supply. This forced Grant to return to Memphis, and sealed the fate of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman’s cooperating amphibious expedition at Chickasaw Bayou on 27-29 December 1862. Early in1863, Grant moved the bulk of his army from Memphis to three camps in Louisiana opposite Vicksburg: Lake Providence, Milliken’s Bend, and Young’s Point.
During a miserably wet winter, Grant’s attempts to bypass Vicksburg by digging canals at Lake Providence, DeSoto Point, and Duckport all failed. Other Bayou Expeditions also failed: The Yazoo Pass Expedition at Fort Pemberton on 20 March, and the Steele’s Bayou Expedition on Rolling Fork Creek in late March. The Vicksburg defenses seemed invulnerable.
However, Grant never lost sight of his objective: "To secure footing upon dry ground on the east side of the river from which the troops could operate against Vicksburg." On 31 March, Grant marched his army southward through Louisiana, corduroying roads and building bridges as he went. He
hoped to find a lightly-defended point on the Mississippi shore south of Vicksburg.
Grant’s first plan was to cross the Mississippi River at Confederate occupied Grand Gulf. At Grant’s request, on the night of 16 April, Flag Officer David D. Porter ran the Vicksburg batteries. Porter’s seven ironclads and four transports were to provide gunnery support and transport for Grant’s troops. By 28 April, the bulk of Grant’s army had assembled at Hard Times Plantation, Louisiana, with plans to land at Grand Gulf, Mississippi. The next day, a determined effort by Porter’s ironclad gunboats failed to knock out the Grand Gulf guns. Undaunted, Grant moved his army further south to Disharoon’s Plantation.
On 30 April his men, transported by Porter’s boats (which had run the Grand Gulf batteries the previous night), landed unopposed at Bruinsburg. Moving inland, on 1 May the Union force encountered Brig. Gen. John Bowen’s Confederates five miles west of Port Gibson.
Though the Confederates were greatly outnumbered, they fought so tenaciously that an entire day was required to drive them back across Bayou Pierre. Grant then outflanked Bowen by a river crossing of Bayou Pierre at Grindstone Ford and advanced to Hankinson’s Ferry on the Big Black River. This forced Bowen to evacuate Grand Gulf. Grant immediately converted Grand Gulf to a forward supply depot. Grant decided not to advance directly on Vicksburg from Hankinson’s Ferry because of considerations of terrain and tactics.
He boldly turned northeast toward Edwards to cut the railroad. He planned to cut off Pemberton’s supplies, as well as to draw the Confederates out of their fortifications. Grant’s plan changed after the battle of Raymond on 12 May, when Maj. Gen James McPherson’s corps was attacked by Confederate Brig. Gen. John Gregg’s brigade. While at Dillon’s farm Grant was informed of the Union victory at Raymond.
He daringly decided to turn his army toward Jackson, assuming that a large Confederate force was assembling there. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston hadrecently arrived at Jackson with 5,000 Confederate troops. He abandoned Jackson on 14 May after a brief fight with Grant’s soldiers. The next day the Union army turned toward Vicksburg, leaving Sherman’s corps behind to destroy the city. Pemberton had moved 23,000 men eastward out of Vicksburg to defend his railroad supply line.
On 15 May, he marched to interdict the Union supply line at Dillon’s farm. The Union and Confederate armies clashed at Champion Hill on 16 May, where a decisive Confederate defeat forced Pemberton to withdraw toward Vicksburg. Pemberton withdrew the bulk of his army across the Big Black Bridge, leaving Bowen with a force of 7,000 men to defend a fortified bridgehead. Bowen’s defenses collapsed under Union assault early on 17 May, turning an orderly retreat into the Vicksburg defenses into a rout. By nightfall, Sherman had bridged the Big Black River at Bridgeport, and was on the road to Vicksburg.
Pemberton was able to rally his disorganized and demoralized troops in the trenches of Vicksburg. On 19 May they to repulsed an assault, primarily by Sherman’s corps. On 22 May a second assault by Grant’s entire army was also repulsed.
Unwilling to expend more lives in attempts to take the city by storm, Grant began siege operations. By the end of June, with all communication by either land or river cut off, Pemberton realized that he could neither break out nor hope for rescue by Johnston’s Army of Relief. After 47 days of siege, Pemberton accepted Grant’s terms, including the parole of all Confederate troops.
Fortress Vicksburg was officially surrendered at 10:00 a.m. on 4 July 1863. Port Hudson on the Mississippi River was now flanked and rendered inconsequential due to the surrender of Vicksburg. The river fortress was surrendered on 9 July 1863. Union control of the Mississippi was complete, and the strategic objective in the west had been achieved. Grant would write, “The fate of the Confederacy was sealed when Vicksburg fell.”

Our objectives are to get in position that any salesman, interviewer, attorney, Executive and public speaker will use our kits on daily day based.
The body language kit is definitely a great addition to any workshops that covers non verbal communication, body language, public speaking, leadership and more. So, we don’t think that we have to take any position or agenda.
Research shows that in a week after the workshops, most of the participates don’t remember most of the material and the skills that they learned in the workshop. The body language cards will help them to refresh their memories. That the place that we want to be, that also the reason for the low cost of the product – we want to get to the mass market.

3-day trek through this national preservation area, beginning in Vacas Gordas ("Fat Cows") district, finishing in Morro da Igreja (Church Mountain). We were guided by Juan Rivas Beasley, photographer and mountaineer.
One of the main objectives of the European Union is to promote economic, social and territorial cohesion between regions. The reformed EU Cohesion Policy 2014-2020 comes at a pivotal moment. Recent years of austerity have seen rising unemployment and widening inequality, especially in peripheral regions, with youth, women and ethnic minorities worst affected.
Making over €350 billion available to invest in Europe's regions, cities and the real economy, the reformed Cohesion Policy is the EU's principal investment tool to deliver the Europe 2020 goals: creating growth and jobs, tackling climate change and energy dependence, reducing poverty and social exclusion. Once member states’ national contributions and the leverage effect of financial instruments are taken into account, the impact is likely to be over €500 billion.
Launching a new partnership with the European Commission, with the participation of the OECD, Salzburg Global’s program is timed to help key stakeholders understand the rules and results-oriented focus of the reformed Cohesion Policy and ensure maximum impact for these investments. It will build on our longstanding European program which has featured over 15 sessions devoted to the EU’s development and expansion, grounded in our location at the crossroads of East and West.
The 2014 program will focus on ways in which regional development policy and complementary instruments can enhance competitiveness and effective governance at local, regional and transboundary levels.
Participants will examine tools for environmentally sustainable innovation, human capital development, creation and financing of SMEs and the transition to a low carbon economy. They will compare practical projects and mechanisms that have delivered successful outcomes for competitiveness and inclusive growth, in and beyond Europe, in order to identify transferable tools and connect stakeholders who are leading cutting-edge work around the world.
The program will be held from May 17 to May 22, 2014 in Salzburg, Austria, with a one day, high-level pre-session meeting on May 17-18, focusing on European competitiveness, the shift to low carbon economies, and the role of sustainable cities.

It occurred to me while lying in bed this morning, that I could use the cap from a microscope objective holder to mate a microsope objective lens with some sort of T-mount tube. It works!
The camera body is just for show, normally it would go on the camera that took the picture.
Still over French territory, we approach a ridge called Crêts de la Neige, with GVA airport, Geneva itself, the lake, Switzerland, the Salève, and the Alps (which are back in France) beyond. Mont Blanc rises above it all.

Main objective of the project in development is the control of Digital Cameras (pocket or DSLR) via USB.
(not using CHDK for Canon, we really talk with the Camera via USB)
At the moment we are able to control via USB Canon and Nikon cameras (shooting immediate or in time lapse, time shutter speed)
We are working with external sensor (light, movement, sound etc) to trigger the shoot as the event is reached.
The Digital camera control with PIC Technology control is coming!
