From improvised shields decorated with the front covers of books, to a mosaic-tiled pickup truck, August’s Friday Late took inspiration from the V&A’s Disobedient Objects exhibition. Visitors joined us for the night to explore the arts of social rebellion and strategies for change.
The first of a series of photos I'm taking of objects to practice things such as lighting and getting that nice white background. All these were taken with white foam backing propped up on a couple of books on a coffee table with a flashgun and a reflector.
I do love those little objects that sit on our desks or in our pockets and want to explore thngs such as form and patina more with this little series. This is my harmonica, a Hohner Chrometta 14 which I'm currently a little out of practice with.
The finished pendant, showing the glass bottle stopper in place. The stopper was a pain to set as it broke on me the first time I tried and the section into which a groove had been cut sheared off completely. Fortunately, there was enough material left to cut another groove. The shorter stopper looks better, but that is pure luck!
This young fella in Banda Aceh couldn't get enough of me - what was I doing? what was that I had? For that matter, what was I? His grandfather, the barber who offered me a seat to wait out the rain, thought it was all pretty amusing.
