Plenty of nuts here today, so I escaped and found somewhere quiet. Had this little Nuthatch to myself for a while, before more nuts arrived.
These are "insert nuts".
The thread is cut on the inside like a normal nut but the outside has a series of machined ribs so that the nut can be pressed or hammered into a hole and thus fixed in place. These nuts accept a "set" screw which is headless but with a slot to accept a screwdriver blade. The other end of the screw is usually pointed so that it can press against another component to prevent movement - thus locking it in place when the desired degree of "set" or adjustment is reached. Many doorknobs use this type of fitting.
Each insert in this photograph is 6mm x 8mm for M4 screws

Have a nice Friday and stay safe.
a bag of hazelnuts we bought in Chilliwack poses for a photo before being roasted in the oven tomorrow.
sold my Canon EOS 7d m2 and Canon EOS R last year as I decided that my Canon R6 would do both jobs I ask of my Canon kit, local landscape and big wave chasing. I used the 7d in combination with my EF100-400mm 4.5/5.6 L for the waves but in low light which usually coincided with stormy weather I couldn’t really push the photos passed 400iso, so I thought the R6 would fix that. Unfortunately I lost the focal length expecting a full frame to do the same job, even with the 1.4x extender attached it was unsatisfactory. So I ordered a R7 on the announcement of the release, three month later I cancelled that order as they was no sign of getting my hands on one. However in December they became available and I managed to get one. What with one thing or another this year I’ve not really been able to use the camera so to fix that I took it around my local park last week armed with the ultralight RF100-400 and some monkey nuts.
