There are so many things to love about Martina Franca in Italy's south, it's beautiful people, wonderful fresh produce and what I especially fell in love with was it's streets . . . a labyrinth of winding maze like alleys, paved streets with blinding whitewashed houses, rococo verandahs and the most amazing baroque doors like this one featured here.
On this particular day we'd spent the morning at the local market, our brief was to interact with the stallholders and capture them and the local produce. It was a wonderful experience as the market was not only full of colourful produce, like these fresh hazelnuts, but so many colourful characters too!
After the mornings shoot and memorable 12 course lunch (and thats no exaggeration) I spent the afternoon wandering the town where I became slightly obsessed with these beautiful doors. The more I wandered the more I found and in all sorts of colours too . . . this mornings colourful fresh produce sprang to mind and I knew instantly that the two would make a wonderful colour palette series and it's where the inspiration for all of my Italian colour palette series came from.
Just in case you're curious about the 12 course feast this is what is consisted of (and in order too) . . . platters of fresh mozzarella and a selection of local cured meats, followed by platters of grilled and marinated Mediterranean vegetables, fava bean puree (another local speciality which I became addicted to), fresh garden salad, native pickled onions, fish carpaccio, egg polpotte (meatballs with cheese herbs), fried ricotta stuffed pasta served with a bread tomato sauce, risotto zucchini flowers, roast lamb with stuffed artichoke and roast potatoes, pork and onion pie and fresh fruit platters to finish!
You can see more of my Colour Palette series here:
I've done one of these before but just used silver screws etc. I much prefer using a variety of colours. It was done on a piece of black perspex with soft boxes on the sides of the table. It's a stack of 5 images merged together in Photoshop.
I try to keep a pot of nuts in my bag for those times I feel a bit peckish so I don't get tempted to buy unhealthy snacks. Every Day Carry for Macro Mondays.
