HFF!

Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbine) taking a break after searching for food on the forest floor in the pine woods on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.

A flock of about 20 of these birds were observed on the forest floor and in the trees searching for food.

Clark's nutcrackers were probably the most charismatic bird I encountered whilst in Canada and this was especially the case at Moraine Lake. Continually flying between the trees and hoping around on the ground they proved a little tricky to photograph but I came away with plenty of photos

This image was taken with One Candle Power as the light provided by the candle was the only light source. It's a 4 second time exposure, taken on a glass top dining room table - hence the reflections. A fun image taken in the spirit of Christmas.

View LARGE or ORIGINAL for more detail if you have time... thanks....

Looking at the original really is worth it!!

“Christmas Nutcracker soldiers are decorative statues most commonly made to resemble a toy soldier. It was said that in German tradition, the dolls are symbols of good luck.”

Nutcracker Ballerina's Portrait

With the statewide stay at home order, I continue to look for photography subjects at home. This reminds me of the Nutcracker ballet and its theme by Tchaikovsky is playing in my brain. Stay safe, everyone.

A pair of birds came to feed on the peanuts we had put out for them.

According to German folklore, nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck to your family and protect your home. The legend says that a nutcracker represents power and strength and serves like a trusty watch dog guarding your family from evil spirits and danger. A fierce protector, the nutcracker bares its teeth to the evil spirits and serves as the traditional messenger of good luck and goodwill.

Wow! Are all these for little ol' me?!

This bird was very friendly and quite bold. I was able to hand feed him as he would perch on my knee to take a peanut. Awesome experience!

😊 Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

No, this is nowhere in MY house, but it is in the house of friends! I couldn't resist the shot!

On Friday, I crossed the street from hanging out at the Americana AGAIN, and I saw this different looking (different enough) nutcracker to get a photo of it. The fact that it was in front of the Museum of Neon Art didn't hurt either. This new phone camera has a 50MP sensor, and combined with an f/1.8 lens allows me to get some quite good low light shots, especially getting the details of a magic hour shot.

A scene from our local production of the holiday favorite, The Nutcracker.

My fourth entry for the ABS builder challenge, and a collaboration with Dave Zambito, a fellow Azure Blue teammate. We were both at a local LUG event this Saturday, so I contacted him asking if he would be interested in doing a live collab while we were there. He said yes, so we decided on a subject matter and each brought some bricks to build with. Despite only having around 2 hours to build, we were able to complete the whole thing at the event. 28 of the seed part are included in the build, in 4 different colors.

More pictures.

The situation... we found the alert that the nutcracker sits at a certain point in the Black forest. We went there to find it. When we left the car, we were so unamused about the noise. So many bikes, horrible. We decided to give up and went to the highest mountain of the Black forest, the Feldberg. There, we went for a walk, found many different bird species. And suddenly, the nutcracker popped up and was there. We had three chances to get a picture. I was lucky and could get this really great shot!
