Probably should have fixed her eyes a bit but I was too excited XD Love her little nutcracker

Every good hotel needs a nutcracker sentry on guard ….. just in case! It’s no different at the Mount Juliet Estate where nutcrackers stand either side of the entrance to guard over Christmas! The interior of the lobby looks so welcoming. I think I can even spot a gingerbread house!

The Spotted Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) is a charismatic member of the crow family and has a wide distribution across the forested hills of Europe to western Siberia. But there is also a well-isolated population across China and the Himalayas. These southern Nutcrackers lack white spots lower down on the plumage creating plain brown areas next to the wings. They also have more white in the tail which extends almost to the feather bases. Both of these features can be seen on this Chinese Nutcracker, which is of the subspecies macella. Nutcrackers feed mainly on the seeds from pine cones and occasionally, when there is a widespread crop failure, they erupt into areas where they don't normally occur, which includes Britain. The last big invasion to Britain was in 1968 but I don't think there has been a single record since 1991. I remember seeing one in Suffolk in 1985 that was smashing up apples just to get to the pips, ignoring all the tasty bits.

I photographed this Chinese Nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes macella) at Labahe in Sichuan, China at an elevation of about 2800m.

Isaac and I got a very unique opportunity through InnovaLUG, to build a series of Nutcrackers based off of the promotional Nutcracker set to aid in The LEGO Group’s advertising of the promotion. You can see that video on their Facebook page here. They needed 18 unique outfits for Nutcrackers built within a few weeks, and we jumped at the chance to do some building for the LEGO group.

This pirate captain was the first nutcracker I made, and I’m still very happy with how he turned out. I didn’t base him specifically off of any one minifigure, but a few of the various pirates LEGO has released over the years did inspire a few sections, such as his overcoat.

I can’t be sure but I think my nutcracker is into some espionage stuff.

A moment in time captured...and held. Our local version of the Chistmas classic the Nutcracker.

This robot was based off of the clockwork robot LEGO produced, and is probably one of my favorites of the nutcrackers I built.

An uncropped shot of this bonny wee red taken at 300mm.

It was a real treat to see this stunning creature so close as he sat eating a hazelnut only a few feet away from me.

Thanks again to Alan for having me at his woodland set up.

This forestman was based off of one of the classic forestman designs, and although pretty simple, it was a lot of fun to make. The shaping for his cap was a fairly tricky, but after a few iterations I found that wedge slopes worked pretty nicely. Another challenge was attaching the quiver in such a way that the functionality of the nutcracker wasn’t inhibited.

'NUTCRACKER' - 'CHATSWORTH CHRISTMAS' - NOVEMBER 2016

Clarks Nutcracker feeding in Jasper National Park; Initial footage is their usual location near the tree tops, first transition is a day shift when we got back to the same area again and found a flock of them feeding on the ground and shots of them in other settings. November 23 and 24 2016.

Today I present to you a classic, The Nutcracker.

Hope you like it and I leave you here the link of the land where you can go to try and buy these splendid dances.

Santa was a very straightforward model, though also one of the designs that I thought turned out best.

Clark's nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana), sometimes referred to as Clark's crow or woodpecker crow, is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to western North America. The nutcracker subsists on pine nuts, burying excess seeds in the ground. - Wikipedia
