The Clark's Nutcracker is a very cool bird to experience. They are also an important part of the ecosystem in Coniferous forests of the Rocky Mountains and the Cascades. This bird is unique in that a single individual can store as many as 100,000 seeds in a single year, many of these seeds that they stash for food reserves end up in a favorable place to germinate and form new trees. without the Clarks Nutcracker forest cycles could very well suffer. for these reasons it is considered a specialist and a keystone species.

The Clark's Nutcracker feeds its nestlings pine seeds from its many winter caches. Because it feeds the young on stored seeds, the nutcracker can breed as early as January or February, in spite of the harsh winter weather in its mountain home. (CornellLab)

This was my first time seeing a Clark's nutcracker so another bird I can add to my birding list :-)! This photo was taken in Yellowstone National Park.
This european nutcracker was quite photographer cooperative and posed nicley on a branch, Bad Gastein, Austria

This was out along the Slough Creek trail in Yellowstone. An otherwise quiet morning was temporarily interrupted when a loud, little flock of Clark's nutcrackers came crashing through.
You can buy nutcrackers of all shapes, colours and sizes at a German Christmas market. Here are a few. :)

The Nutcracker Ballet is an 1892 two act ballet choreographed by Marius Petipa and Levi Ivanor, with a score by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The premier was on Christmas Eve, thus the association with Christmas.
These photos are taken from the Georgia College production. While I was Department Chair of Music and Theatre, I saw the need for "Dance." I implemented a Dance Minor. Today, 25 years later, the Theatre and Dance are a department of their own.
The yearly production of the Nutcracker is seen by over 3000 people each year.

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is an orange day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Crazy Tuesday is nutcracker. So as you can see, my picture do not represent some kind of torture device but just our old nutcracker (so maybe, in the end, it is a torture device for nuts !). You just have to put your nut in the middle and squeeze as hard as you can, and then the magic happens: you will end up with a delicious ready to eat nut. I wish you all an amazing day !! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!
