Nutcrackers in front of the Croatian National Theater building
Nutcracker dolls are figurines most commonly made to resemble a toy soldier. In German tradition, the dolls are symbols of good luck, frightening away malevolent spirits. Nutcrackers are also a part of German folklore, serving as protectors of a house.
The story of The Nutcracker is based on the Hoffmann's fantasy story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.

This Southern Nutcracker was giving forth some of the characteristic raucous calls that members of the genus Nucifraga are known for. Like Clark’s Nutcracker in the north of the New World, this species stores food and is highly successful in retrieving it. This charismatic individual was observed in the mountains of the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area, east of Taichung City on the island nation of Taiwan in East Asia. It was a lifer for me (as birdwatchers say of the first time they see a species).
Enchantment's event hits the grid starting this weekend, Saturday November 13th at 12:00 noon SLT. This round is The Nutcracker, and will run until December 4th.

Year after year, tiny nutcrackers hang like sweet little soldiers on my Christmas trees. They're all so different in colours, textures and designs.
Outside falling white fluffy snowflakes make it the perfect place for a photoshoot.
I'm always surprised at the details I see with macro photography.
The nutcracker king seemed perfect for this week's Macro Monday's theme - Tradition.

Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbine) searching for food on the forest floor in the pine woods on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.
A flock of about 20 of these birds were observed on the forest floor and in the trees searching for food.

"Alex and Kathy host a walk-through display that includes a gingerbread house, blow-mold nativity, a penguin pond, Santa and moving reindeer, a Whoville train, [etc.]. The lights are on from 5 to 10 p.m. until Dec. 31. Please stay on the designated path and driveway. Donations can be made to the food bank if desired."

Happy Holidays!
It's the first advent today, so about time to decorate your home for Christmas. A nutcracker is one typical decoration where I come from (Ore-mountains, Germany).
And to build one out of lego was on my to do list since 2013, when I built a lego Schwibbogen. Now, I finally did it.
Here is a bird I only see in Rocky Mountain National Park, based on the date of this image it's been a while since the last sighting.
Self-made with some fantasy, ( nut in the hole ,smash on the head and dinner,) this photo is textured with himself so tree shots to one)
