Hand written notes and gum left by tourists in the courtyard that (supposedly) inspired the balcony scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
January 27, 2009. I'm under the weather today so you get a photo of some books on my bookshelves. The papers in binders (lying horizontally) are notes and papers from my pre-Internet days).
My girlfriend left sticky notes all over my apartment for me to find. Some of them are nice, but some are just mean.
Napoli - Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, svelato il segreto delle lettere aramaiche incise nelle pietre. Le pietre rappresentano un pentagramma e le lettere incise le note musicali.La composizione musicale è stata intitolata Enigma.
Probably not the wisest thing to do, eating in the Microbiology lab, but I was so bored, and so hungry, and the demonstration was taking so very long!!

Tasted on Fri 14.12.2007. 13.0%. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. Fresh and fleshy nose of black currants, and oak. Medium-bodied, a pleaser with a sweet core and herbs, tart and tough on the mid-palate with a shorter finish. Note the upstanding mail collar, the large hanging sleeves of the houppelande and the early massive (visible! Which is very rare by this date) breastplate fastened by 'points' to Wilhelme's shoulders.
Wilhelme, who died in 1397, wears an interesting mixture of armour and late 14th century clothing. The large hanging sleeves are a typical example of civilian dress, covered by an early massive breastplate fastened by 'points' to his shoulders.
His wife Adilhe de Bierset died in 1379.
Winter just arrived at BCN, and I took some comfortable and warm pants I hadnt used in months, took a shower and put them on. Then I felt something in the pocket, and I found this.

Dear Santa,
How do reindeer fly? How do you get in a house without a chimny? I hope you give all the children their toys.
With best luck and wishes for Christmas Eve, Alex.
PS I miss you.
PPS Thank you.
This handwritten service log dates to the 1960s and contains the handwritten signatures of engineers who were maintaining the brewery's lift machinery several decades ago.
Note the step - the sheet metal dropouts on this old Gillott are much narrower than the derailleur hanger body. I'll build this back up with some stainless sheet metal, and cut and file it to match the curvature of this elegant dropout
My Death Note came without shoes. I contacted another DN owner here and her doll was without shoes also.
Dominatrix garb with a weird doll.... I guess I find the combination strange not the doll itself.
Things of beauty.
I often forget the small things that inspire me. One of them is old currency. I have a small collection. These are pre Bolshevik revolution Rubles. The further back you go in time, you can literally see why we call these things "bank notes". They literally used to be these huge notes from a bank saying "yeah, we agree to pay blah blah X amount".
The artistry and style that goes into these things is amazing. And even better, you can pick up these little bits of history really quite cheaply from a bunch of places.
