Equipped with skis in place of wheels, this Northrop Gamma Polar Star was flown accross Antartica in 1935 by explorer Lincoln Ellsworth and pilot Herbert Hollick-Kenyon. The fuselage area just behind the engine cowling still bears dents from a hard landing on polar ice.

• Range: Alaska, the Yukon, south to British Columbia and eastward to the Canadian east coast and down into the upper northern regions of the contiguous United States.
• Diet: Caterpillars — leaves of birches, aspen, crabapple and black cherry. Adults — flower nectar.
I had a magical bike ride where riding along a trail lined with wild roses four to five butterflies would fly along with me. Sometimes the butterflies were replaced with dragonflies. At the end of my ride a bald eagle was soaring overhead (beyond the limits of my lens) and had a confrontation with an osprey in the air.

We traveled from Nuuk to Sisimiut by the boat Sarfaq Ittuk in about 20 hours. The boat stopped in Maniitsoq and Kangaamiut. Passengers going on and off the boat here in Kangeamiut had to be sailed from the boat in a smaller one due to the low waters in the harbor. This photo is taken at the top of the boat around 4pm.

Pausing the dog team waiting for the snowmachiners to clear the trail. They were buzzing all over the lake like a swarm of annoying mosquitos. But they are polite and respectful of our dog teams.

Female young polar bear on the ice stack of the north pole. 81°2'4.5726" N
The polar ice is rapidly recessing, threatening the survival of the polar bears. No one of the powerful politicians in charge is doing anything to avoid it, at the contrary they and giant oil companies want it to increase their profit and power. Our grand children won't know what is this awesome beautiful free wildlife of the Arctic sea.
Only zodiacs can move to deeper zones where fragile glaciers are hung over the sea.....icebergs float here and there....and an eerie mist envolopes......
