The second of the pair of flat-front ex Bristol OC ECW bodied RELL6Ls operated by Nelson, Wickford, in the mid-1980s. THis one even managd a little further service with Charter Coach in Harwich later. Always loved the name 'Nelsons Independent Bus Services' - straight out of the 'Only Fools & Horses' playbook, Rodney!

E101VWA was a Neoplan N416 SLII B52F built as a demonstrator for Carlton PSV (dealer) in October 1987. No orders enshewed and the bus passed to their SUT subsidiary.

Sheffield United Tours was formed on 31st December 1926 when Arthur Kitson commenced trading in charabancs with the purpose of providing transport for private hire and excursions for patrons of Sheffield and the surrounding area. However, after only eight years of operation he decided to sell out to the British Electric Traction subsidiary of Yorkshire Traction in Barnsley, who purchased the entire shareholding on the 18th December 1934. Half the shares were resold almost immediately to the Chesterfield based company of East Midland Motor Services, this company again being part of the British Electric Traction group.

Sadly Sheffield United Tours was absorbed into the National Bus Company in 1969 which eventually was to herald the end of SUT as it had been known. On 1st January 1974, the company was teamed up with the coaching arm of Hebble Motor Services and both integrated into the Central Activities Group (CAG) of NBC. The SUT name was to appear for the last time on the sides of new coaches in 1974 whilst the familiar grey & red livery gave way reluctantly to the bland, uninspiring, all over white livery for new vehicles in 1973.

Eventually privatisation crept in at Sheffield and the full title of "Sheffield United Tours" was sold to Wallace Arnold, meaning that only the initials could be used by the company. ATL Holdings was formed by a former second-hand car salesman named Anthony T Lavin who owned a small company that provided cheap overseas coach holidays and the Neoplan dealer Carlton (PSV), and later Yelloway of Rochdale. Sister company ATL Holdings (Western) would buy Crosville.

He took control and unfortunately concentrated more on de-regulated bus services with Bristol RE’s and a motley collection of ageing Leyland National’s. The company sold out to Mainline and the bus eventually passed to Nelsons Independent Bus Services (NIBS).
