The Badger boys toe-dipping at Boggle Hole on the East coast. Highly recommended.

Following on from yesterday's photo of the eggs on a Nettle leaf (see photo in first comment below) these are the newly hatched Small Tortoiseshell butterfly caterpillars. You can see their tent-like web covered in droppings in top left of the image. A Common Red Soldier beetle is handy as a size reference. HBW & Happy Webnesday!

This is obviously the same place as the previous photo... I found it so pretty and so peaceful....

You know you are on PEI when you see the red soil. High iron oxide in the soil gives it a distinctive rusty red color..the roads are red, the fields are red, the beaches are red...and your clothes get stained if they get dirty...You can even buy "mud shirts", which are sweatshirts and t shirts dyed a reddish brown just by immersing them in muddy water..Very cool!

Today the eruption seems to be stopped, at least for the moment... who know what will be for the next few days! This evening (14.04.10) the autority are clearing the near by area around the glacier due to a string of strong eartquakes that can be a hint of yet another eruption.... The same activity as the evening before the first Volcanic Eruption??

One in a long line of buses to operate out of Torpoint depot back in the days when First had a strong presence in the area, the VRs were sadly gone but these rather nice Leyland Olympians did the fill in job for a couple of years.

Looking in good condition here with a small amount of duct tape by the left front...(well no worse than Citybus here today!) this was taken on North Cross Roundabout just up from the station.

Last of this photoset. I'll wear a different colour next time I wear this style of skirt ;-)

... there is something about people in hats that makes it hard to resist photographing them. this was not the easiest shot to take, my old dslr (with a loud shutter), and a big lens sticking out in front, and nowhere to hide on a moving train. but the little scene was too much to pass up, and I clicked a few times. once you've got the shot, you've got the shot, you can worry about the rest later! the lady was not very pleased I think. would you have taken the shot, or respected the other person's reluctance to be photographed? ...

yet another kingfisher ,must try and get out later LOL

Boats in mist, Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, 23 Feb 2019

I had been expecting sunshine for the high tide at 9a.m.

Instead there was mist.

Decided that these shots of 'Albatros' look best converted to mono and then sepia toned. An attempt at a Frank Meadow Sutcliffe picture!

I'm excited to visit Japan next week. It'll be my first time there. Over the years I've so enjoyed the many great Japanese photographers I've had the chance to follow here on Flickr. It strikes me as a nation that loves photography. Also one of my favorite authors, Haruki Murakami has been painting this land in my imagination for years too. Now the only question is, which camera to bring... :)

Looking out into the Atlantic.

All three photos posted this morning were taken yesterday, 28 June 2016, when I went with friends, Dorothy and Stephen, to Bow Valley Provincial Park They are leading a day trip out there in the near future and wanted to do a dry run and very kindly invited me to go with them.

These mountains are the first ones you come to, when you drive westwards on Highway 1A from Calgary. Mt. Yamnuska is a spectacular sight, and very popular with rock-climbers and hikers. I've never hiked up there - and am never likely to : ) The flat area at the foot of these mountains is Bow Valley Provincial Park, very popular with botanists and birders. It is less than an hour's drive west from Calgary.

The view from the particular spot seen in my first photo is so beautiful - my favourite view in Bow Valley Provincial Park. We stood for a while and soaked it all in. The Many Springs trail is perhaps the most rewarding in the park. On the way out of the park, we stopped at Middle Lake and walked down the path as far as the lake. We were horrified at how low the water level was - we had seen the same thing at Many Springs, too.

We saw a reasonably good variety of wildflowers, including Western Wood Lilies, Yellow Lady's-slippers, Sticky False Asphodel, and lots of Gaillardia. Though the end of June is usually the best time to go for the wildflowrs, you still never know what you will find. We barely had a spring this year, it was so hot and so dry, more like summer.

Birds were much harder to find, even though we heard them. There were quite a few small birds flitting about, but our best sightings were of this brightly coloured male Yellow Warbler and some kind of flycatcher near the boardwalk at Many Springs. Both were on the move constantly, catching insects, though I did manage to get a few less-than-good photos. One of my Warbler shots made me smile when I saw it on my computer. The bird was perched, with a beak full of insects, right next to a large spider's web. Kind of robbing ones neighbour.

The weather forecast for yesterday mentioned the risk of thunderstorms, but we were so lucky. The sun shone all day and the sky was full of puffy clouds. Once our visit was over and we were ready to drive back to Calgary, a bit of rain did arrive.

Thanks so much, Dorothy and Stephen, for such an enjoyable day! It was a real treat to go to the mountains, as I so rarely go.

The link below is a map showing the turn off to the park and the layout of the lake areas. The roads at the junction with highway 1A are quite confusing!

Autumn has come and is about to become winter. First day of frost came and so did some sunlight. Today...quite a different story. It is not going to be bright all day. Can´t wait for some snow to brighten things up.
