The great monastic complex of Gyantse is known as Pelkhor Chode Monastery is the main monastery in Gyantse, Tibet, next to the Dzong or fort. It is most notable for its Kumbum, which has 108 chapels in its four floors. The Tsuklakhang, the main temple of the monastery was built 1418-1428 by Rabten Kunzang Phak, the second Prince of Gyantse, who was a devotee of Kedrub Je (1385-1438), one of Tsongkapa's leading disciples later recognised as the 1st Panchen Lama. It became an important centre of the Sakya sect of Tibetan Buddhism. In 1904, the town and monastery were attacked by British soldiers and, although most of the damage was later restored, bullet holes from this attack remain in the monastery to this day. It was partially destroyed in 1959 after a revolt against Chinese rule. It was ransacked again during the Cultural Revolution, but has since been largely restored www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...

Another visit to Whitby, yes it's still one of my favourite places, the best thing is, it wasn't as busy at it usually is, which was great, however I didn't take the camera, but I was presented with this awesome sunset on the 199 steps, I only had my mobile phone, I did shoot raw and manual, and more than happy how this turned out.

Took alot of blossoms photos the past couple of days. Hard to pick one to post. I chose this one for now, because it's a bit different. I've been enjoying my trip East, Georgia in particular has provided some pretty amazing spring photo opportunities. Heading to Iowa next, then maybe back to the western states towards home.

It's been overcast the last few mornings, and it's projected to be cloudy for the next 4 days! However, yesterday the sun came out around 1:00 so we headed to the beach for a little walk. Just beautiful, and I ran into this Willet - I shot him for a few minutes as he tried to put away this crab. Tons of shots. I look up for a second to say something to James, and WHAM! Down the hatch. I missed it!

ABOUT THE SERIES

------------------------------

In September 2011, my wife and I went to Iceland for a two week honeymoon. The trip was such an incredible experience. We started in Reykjavík and drove around the outside of the county counterclockwise. Although we made hotel reservations ahead of time, our day to day itinerary wasn't planned in advance so we could see/do whatever we felt like.

Iceland is such a diverse and amazing place. I've never seen such beauty, breathtaking landscapes, and an assortment of scenery anywhere else. One moment you're walking on a glacier and the next you're hiking through a lush landscape to a waterfall. Mid to late September seemed like the perfect time of year to go. There were no crowds at any of the sites, we had our pick of where to stay, and the weather was fantastic.

If you've never been to Iceland, photos (mine or anyone else's) don't really do it justice. It's somewhere you have to see and experience in person.

Last century on our farm we milked just enough cows to annoy us boys but also to provide milk for 8 kids and many bowls of cereal. It always caused a stir in our tribe when someone would forget to put the milk away after using it and the next person found that it had gone sour. Serious dairy farmers had attached buildings that contained cooled stainless steel milk tanks.

I had an early birthday present from my lovely hubby at the weekend which is only two weeks away. After much pleading I asked for it early so I could start playing, a Tamron 150-600mm wildlife/sports lens, so, I took it out today to the woodland near my home and I got some magnificent captures, looking forward to lots of fun with this very wonderful, very heavy, long, huge lens which weighs approx 5lb in weight alone, but I got some magnificent captures which I will share over the next few days. Here's a happy 48th birthday to me :)

Next in my monochrome animal portrait series.

When I visit the Toronto Zoo, I am like a Labrador Retriever... everywhere I go it's "Oh Boy! My Favourite!!!"

I do have to say the visiting the Gorillas is indeed one of my favourite places.

why? I ask myself all the time, why do I enjoy doing street work so much? I have learned several things about the world and myself in the last two years of exploration. I enjoy street because I have never felt like I am part of the world... the world that interacts on a daily basis without awkwardness and anxiety. I have spent my life on the outskirts, a child of would be wanderers... always observing but never really quite fitting in..

Street is the concrete manifestation of that observation.. Outside looking in...The ability to capture those moments that define the simple act of living.. so that I become a part of them... until the next train comes along.
