The next three shots today are at Scotty's Garage and Barn, a motor and history museum and dining place on Flagstone Creek Road at Upper Flagstone Creek on a rather obscure back road to Toowoomba. In fact we only recently learnt of this place and unfortunately, we were unable to do the full experience as we were on our first hour into the trip and it wasn't fully open.
Of particular interest, after living my whole life in Brisbane and having driven to Toowoomba innumerable times, I never realised that this very rural by-way was an alternative and very interesting road up the Great Dividing Range. The joys of travel, discovering new things.
This place deserves more time than what we had and would be a feast for the camera lens. Here is a little more about it.

This is a sego lily or a mariposa lily. "Sego" is a Shoshone word, meaning "edible bulb," referring to the root organ that the Native American tribe considered a delicacy. "Mariposa" is a Spanish word for "butterfly," referring to its most colorful pollinators. About 60 species of sego lilies are native to western North America -- This is Gunnison's sego lily, Calochortus gunnisoni, named after explorer Capt. John Williams Gunnison, who was also honored by the naming of the Gunnison River and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It thrives from mesas at the lower edge of the ponderosa pine belt to high mountain meadows.

MISS SL ♛ Romania tells us, "The Zodiac sign i have chosen for this competition is Aquarius. In Latin, it translates to 'Water Bearer,' and it is the eleventh astrological sign in Western Astrology. The reason I have chosen this sign is when researching, I found that I can relate to many of its qualities, even though I myself am a Gemini. My styling is partially inspired by the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen. Her designs are a form of futuristic Avant Garde, made possible by intelligent use of fabrics and 3D printing for some unique styles. I have used the element of water as a base for my outfit, with the water flowing around my skirt. And of course, what water bearer would be caught without something to carry the water in."
MISS SL ♛ Romania is wearing a bodysuit, skirt, sleeves, and leg chains from Ersh. She adds shoes from KC Couture, jewelry from Orsini and Michan, and makeup from both Goreglam and Identity Faces.
Finally, she utilizes water around her skirt, a headpiece, and nails that she has created herself to help complete her ensemble.

Botallack, Cornwall
My last upload of 2022 and another image from the Cornwall tour with Mark, Geoff and Shelly. 2022 has been mainly a series of many low points with very few highlights for me, but Cornwall was definitely the pinnacle and an opportunity to get away and do something for myself with good friends.
I’ve not posted a lot this year, in fact it’s been my second lowest output (a measly 57) since I joined Flickr way back in 2015. So, I’ll bypass all the fake New Year’s celebrations this weekend and dive head first into 2023 next week. As the song says… things can only get better!

Next year's headache in the making....this seed head had already managed to send off most of it's tiny parasols of seed before the lazy gardener, (guess who), could get to it...this year's beauty will be next year's headache...
It has taken some time to get to grips with the intricacies of night time photography. The next task is to create a more natural environmental setting.

Polarizing and ND 2 step filters are used. Next time I try Polarizing + ND 6 step + focusing stack, for better water reflection.
We quite often see this cat sitting on the post outside the horse behaviour 'therapist's place'. I would like to think that it is the receptionist there.
We had a lovely sunny day today but for the next few days we have nothing but high winds and rain.

"My Way" is of course a very popular song. In this case, the title is meant literally: the premium hiking trail “Romika-Traumschleife” is right next to my house. This 12 km long circular hiking trail is worth seeing at any time of the year. In January 2025 it was covered with a very thin layer of snow - a rare sight in the ever-warming southwest of Germany!
This gorgeous little toad hopped across the boardwalk when we were visiting Cley and Salthouse Marshes!

Elephant Bedroom Camp
Meet Mang’ati, a wild male elephant in Samburu National Reserve. He was named this by the guides in Elephant Bedroom Camp. His name means Enemy.
Elephant numbers have dropped by 62% over the last decade, and they could be mostly extinct by the end of the next decade. An estimated 100 African elephants are killed each day by poachers seeking ivory, meat and body parts, leaving only 400,000 remaining. An insatiable lust for ivory products makes the illegal ivory trade extremely profitable and has led to the slaughter of tens of thousands of African elephants.
If the elephants are to survive, the demand for ivory must be drastically reduced. As of 2011, the world is losing more elephants than the population can reproduce, threatening the future of African elephants across the continent. Bull elephants with big tusks are the main targets and their numbers have been diminished to less than half of the females. Female African elephants have tusks and are also killed, leaving an increasing number of orphaned baby elephants. As of 2017, there are more African elephants being killed for ivory than are being born.
Elephants are a keystone species. It means they create and maintain the ecosystems in which they live and make it possible for a myriad of plant and animal species to live in those environments as well. The loss of elephants gravely affects many species that depend on elephant-maintained ecosystems. - Wikipedia
This Mew Gull chick takes a walk from the nest, and the parents were nearby to insure all was well!
