Chickadee Nest in one of our Bluebird boxes. I had seen them going in and out so I suspected they were building their nest. The Chickadees always make nests with soft dried grasses, moss and downy feathers. They look so comfortable. I have had Chickadee nests in this box before. Last year some birds- probably the Chickadees vandalized the Bluebird nest and tossed all the eggs out on the ground. I hope the Bluebirds will nest in our other box and they can all get along together!

I will track the nesting progress.

The nest was in the car park at Scone Palace a few feet from a wall.

deep inside thick woods under a dense canopy i stumbled on this big white ball glowing in the darkness. This was a surprise. ,just about shoulder height, hanging precariously from a delicate branch jutting out of a tree.I thought it was living dangerously.I dare not say they misjudged it as insects are so much smarter especially when it comes to survival, but then something went wrong. After a few days found the nest smashed to the ground with many hornets trapped under it.May be they were done in by the heavy rains and wind.

.I could go very close and never bothered about my presence.

This sculpture consists of three blue eggs nested inside each other. Each layer of the egg was constructed of 5 segments (made of wire, hand-made paper and acrylic) which were then sewn together into the final form. Dimensions: 8” diameter, 13” long.

If you look closely you can see the spotted eggs underneath her.

Julia found this nest awhile ago, and she keeps it on the mantle in her apartment.

Spotted a large nest and thought I saw a Red-tailed Hawk in the nest. Put the binoculars on it and saw the large ears, knew right away what I had. My first Great Horned Owl nest discovery.

This morning, 12-11, was pretty active with our local eagles! The male was doing all the work, while the female stayed at the nest. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!😀

American Robins 06.09.13

This clip is another snippet of an HD video that I am compiling of newborn Robins from hatch to fledge. The first clip I posted can be found here: Day 2. They sure have grown rapidly since that clip.

Unfortunately, there are only 3 babies now; one perished from the extreme heat we had here about a week ago.

Their wings are very developed now so it won't be much longer, they will soon fledge and the nest will become empty. Growth processes sure are fast in nature, I think I will probably miss the little tikes - I've been videotaping them every evening since they hatched.

Much more info about American Robins can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Robin

My large Bird's Nest Fern was badly damaged by the severe 2 day freeze we had in January. It is growing new fronds now. Feb. 2017.

These are foam eggs I hot glued into this nest that fell from a tree a few years ago. I use it as a porch decoration with my birdhouses.

No time for setting up anything for dolls and these girls were handy so decided to snap a few pics on the porch.

These dolls are my childhood toy replacements. I played with all 3 extensively as a kid. Happy memories. I love their chunky feet and rubbery shoes and they still smell good. :)

Upland Goose nest with eggs. Parents nowhere around. We walked a lot more carefully through this area to avoid any other nests.

Grey Fantail. Rhipidura alisteri

Excited to discover Grey Fantails nesting in a big Banksia just over the fence, I stumbled across the nest when trying to clear weeds. Saw 3 little eggs but quickly left them so that I didn't disturb them anymore than I already had.

I found this nest on an a very small isolated island. The mother retreated before I could identify it. Given that most birds already have their chicks starting to fly I would speculate these failed to hatch but mother instinctively tried to hatch them out.

Hard to catch a roadrunner for a pic, but this one was working on a spring nest

think that there may be chicks, but so far just adults

Orioles make sock-like nests that hang from branches. While they can be nearly impossible to spot among the leaves, spring is a great time to spot nests of all types.
