A tree in Tsavo West full of typical weaver birds nests. You see so many of them around but not all the same. There are different kind of weaver birds who build their own specialized nests. This tree has different weaver birds than the next bird shots - beige/brownish.
Australia , Queensland. Nest found on the ground. I've been given and drawn a similar one before. I still have no idea of what bird it belongs to. But it must be a common one, as my Mum (who find these for me) has three of them

Artists Amy Rice and Terrence Payne, in collaboration with Sotheby's real estate group, announce the opening of their first joint exhibition entitled Nest. The artists have translated the imagery and patterns from their established 2d works and rendered them into the physical world by applying them to textiles, furniture and home furnishings in order to outfit the historic Alcoa House. The Alcoa House, a mid-century marvel for modern living was designed and constructed in 1958 by Charles M. Goodman for the Alcoa Aluminum Company to showcase the wonders of aluminum.

Chickadee Nest in one of our Bluebird boxes. I had seen them going in and out so I suspected they were building their nest. The Chickadees always make nests with soft dried grasses, moss and downy feathers. They look so comfortable. I have had Chickadee nests in this box before. Last year some birds- probably the Chickadees vandalized the Bluebird nest and tossed all the eggs out on the ground. I hope the Bluebirds will nest in our other box and they can all get along together!
I will track the nesting progress.
A group of herons has many collective nouns, including "battery", "hedge", "pose", "rookery", and "scattering" of herons."
This sculpture consists of three blue eggs nested inside each other. Each layer of the egg was constructed of 5 segments (made of wire, hand-made paper and acrylic) which were then sewn together into the final form. Dimensions: 8” diameter, 13” long.
A little taste of Summer - a short video of a Tree Swallow (Tachycineta bicolor) leaving the nest for the first time. Once they leave, they don't return to the nest. You can hear the sharp chirps of the parents encouraging the baby to leave. Swallows don't get as much chance to practice as some other song birds that just fly a few yards to a nearby tree. These little guys take off and are expected to keep up.
Rule of thumb is that, once you see the toes on the edge of the hole, they're ready to go (or might get a push from behind).
I used up a lot of batteries waiting for this one to leave. The oblong hole is made especially for Swallows which tend to "hole hog" to get all of the food. The wider hole allows for two babies at a time and they tend to knock each other back into the nest, so more babies get a chance to eat. Tree Swallows often have 6 or more babies at a time.

Ein weiblicher Höckerschwan (Cygnus olor) auf ihrem Nest
Spotted a large nest and thought I saw a Red-tailed Hawk in the nest. Put the binoculars on it and saw the large ears, knew right away what I had. My first Great Horned Owl nest discovery.
American Robins 06.09.13
This clip is another snippet of an HD video that I am compiling of newborn Robins from hatch to fledge. The first clip I posted can be found here: Day 2. They sure have grown rapidly since that clip.
Unfortunately, there are only 3 babies now; one perished from the extreme heat we had here about a week ago.
Their wings are very developed now so it won't be much longer, they will soon fledge and the nest will become empty. Growth processes sure are fast in nature, I think I will probably miss the little tikes - I've been videotaping them every evening since they hatched.
Much more info about American Robins can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Robin

Grey Fantail. Rhipidura alisteri
Excited to discover Grey Fantails nesting in a big Banksia just over the fence, I stumbled across the nest when trying to clear weeds. Saw 3 little eggs but quickly left them so that I didn't disturb them anymore than I already had.
I found this nest on an a very small isolated island. The mother retreated before I could identify it. Given that most birds already have their chicks starting to fly I would speculate these failed to hatch but mother instinctively tried to hatch them out.
