After continuous cold and wet weather, this Mother returns to her home to retire for the day. D500, Nikon600mm f/4 a@ f/8 1/320th, ISO100
In a long abandoned neighbourhood, we stumbled across this intact hornet's nest, also abandoned by its residents. The architecture, design and colour patterns were amazing. I think this was made by these giant orange East Asian hornets.

Even though all the other rooks have their nests in the trees to the left, this one preferred the suspension bridge over the Cree between Newton Stewart and Minnigaff.

At the heart of Nest is a circular waterbed that looks like a wobbly treasure, land and sea map.

Due to the disappearance of Polka Marina in Ruigrijk, a new activity for young visitors was sought. While the older brothers and sisters have fun in the exciting and big attractions of Ruigrijk, fathers and mothers with small children stayed behind. De Efteling wanted to add something for these young children, who are still too small for the attractions. Something that suits both the area and the young target group.
Designer Robert-Jaap Jansen; "Nest! is a secret place in the woods between the Game Gallery and De Vliegende Hollander, where the different atmospheres of Ruigrijk merge into a world ridden by children. The little ones can get ready to take on the challenges of Ruigrijk at a later age. endured. Learned young is done old!”
“It was immediately clear that it had to become a playground from the perspective of children. Moreover, it has always been important that all children, with or without disabilities, can play together in this new playground. The path of life arose from this idea: the decking path of almost 80 meters long, over which children can ride in a wheelchair or buggy. And which you can also run around. The dragon totem also has multiple functions. From the ground and therefore also with a wheelchair, you can look through the periscope eye and enjoy the view from 6.5 meters high. At one of the slides you slide right past the dragon's teeth via the dragon's tongue. The small slide is also accessible for children in wheelchairs, who can make a transfer with supervision. In the heart of Nest! There will be a large wheelchair-accessible waterbed that looks like a wobbly treasure, map and sea map.”

Update: The nest never became active, have checked several times. Not sure if it was every completely finished due to wet weather.
Dad inside, but only stayed a few seconds at a time.
Very pleasantly surprised to find this Baltimore Oriole Nest, first time to see one. I think this may be the male. Went to check on the new goslings and noticed this while taking photos of them. Definitely more to come as things progress. High overhead so a little difficult to photo.
They got their name from the resemblance of the male's colors to those on the coat-of-arms of 17th century Lord Baltimore. (per Wikipedia)
Unfortunately, per the All About Birds site, their population has declined 36% between 1966-2019, They nest in North America and winter in Central and South America.
Found this little nest in my Sand Cherry tree in my backyard. Really hoping they hatch before I leave for vacation. (Not the best picture as it was taken with my iPhone)
July 20th 2008 201/366 This nest had blown down from a tree in the garden. I had the little eggs (plastic! notice board pins!!) and they looked very at home. The nest is beautiful structurally and the mama has even found soft wadding from somewhere to line it!
Here's another shot in the series of Ospreys in the process of building their nest. This Osprey was photographed at Lake Avalon in Naples,FL in the process of returning to its nest with another twig.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the unloading operation ... after the cars were unloaded, they were simply released on a dip and hill roller coaster set of tracks which would reverse and switch the cars back to shore.
This male Osprey worked tirelessly not only catching and delivering food to his mate in the nest I'm monitoring here in RI, but also made many rounds carrying nesting materials to the nest. She seemed very pleased. What a good partner. :)
Goodbye 2016, Goodbye Honest Ed's. When I was a teenager in Toronto, every Wednesday and Saturday they'd have a sale on 2 selected vinyl records for about 2 bucks each. I'd race there on my bike and score. The things Ed Mirvish chose to sell were sometimes bizarre and always intermixed with celebrity photos signed to him, the fights for sale items could be rapacious, the publicity stunts were generous (free Christmas turkeys), signs screamed puns and insults ("Ed's a slob - he keeps dropping his prices!"), he brought in every kid and immigrant from miles around, and the business model worked. It was fantastic and weird, and it lasted 68 years, until today. Much love to Ed Mirvish, as well as Wayne Reuben, the in-house sign painter since 1994. I went back to photograph the store a year ago and will post more soon. A new era begins.
