Western Sandpiper - Esquimalt Lagoon, Colwood BC.
I had two surprises this day last summer. I had set myself up sitting near the waters edge hoping for a group of sandpipers to come a little closer. Was set-up with my 400 plus a 1.4X TC. They came really close - TOO close! I then VERY slowly removed my teleconverter somehow without spooking them.
They came closer. Then came the second surprise... barely 6 to 8 feet away from me a few elected to have a little nap! Wow! Never before or since have I been this close to the little guys. A great experience. :)
Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis)
This Hobby has become an almost permanent resident of the Powell Drive Park over the last week. This morning it was having a nap. By the looks of the distended crop it had eaten a fine breakfast.

It's a male giant panda, born on 04 Aug 2010 so he is 15 years old by now ...
He was given by the China Government to Safari Park Bogor - Indonesia and arrived on 28 Sep 2017.
He looks great and healthy.
Taken at Safari Park, Cisarua - West Java - Indonesia in Aug 2025.

Bernat, my dog rescued from a shelter. He was abandoned with his 14 siblings in a trash container when he was only 2 months old and became a member of our family two months later. Now he is a 2 years old boy who loves taking long naps.

She had been out in the woods hunting and scent marking her territory.
Then she came over near where I was standing and watching her and laid for a nap.
We have been having a lot of mild rainy weather and most of our snow has disappeared, leaving just the dead leaves behind.
Notice, she has the tip of her tongue sticking out.
