This was the second bird of our Costa Rica trip from earlier this month. We saw many of these Rufous-naped Wrens but they weren’t so easy to photograph because they seem to always be zipping around through the twigs and branches.

During nap time, we had lots of time to move around and get different compositions.

When I noticed long anchor strands gleaming in the sun, stretched between branches and ground, I stepped up to see if I could spot the weaver. Not in the center, which wasn’t unexpected, as it was daytime. I followed the strands to their various anchor points and almost missed this girl tucked in for her daylight nap, hugging this tiny alder cone like a prickly teddy bear.

The chestnut-naped forktail is a species of bird in the flycatcher and chat family Muscicapidae. The species is monotypic, having no subspecies. It is found in Sundaland, in southern Burma and Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Sumatra and Borneo. The species is not migratory.
The species is found along clear rivers and streams in lowland and hill rainforest. It can also be found in secondary scrub, dry ridges, and along logging roads.
Chestnut-naped forktails forage near water, eating a range of insects including earwigs, beetles, ants and caterpillars. They have also been recorded eating snakes. The nest is a cup of plant fibres, lined with leaf skeletons and decorated on the outside with moss. The nest is fixed with mud to a boulder or bank. The clutch size is 2 eggs, which are white or pale pink and marked with reddish-brown speckles and purple undermarkings. This species is a host to brush cuckoos.
This was taken a couple months ago on a warm summer afternoon. Mack was napping on my lap and I tried to lean way back to take a picture with my phone. I still haven't quite figured out how to do that. You might have noticed The Dog photobombing this picture.

The newborn calf, after nursing, laid down under the cow's head and they both closed their eyes. Thinking that this is the best time to walk away and let the two rest in peace. They both looked extremely tired and they did not need our presence to interrupt their sleep. The tenderness shown between the cow and calf will forever be etched in our mind. The cow, so much larger than her calf, licked her so gently and rested her head on the calf's back as to say, I'm here baby.
Our hopes are that Cow and Calf live a long healthy life in the wilds of Alaska.
I know.. I have a thing for lavender. I don't know what it is .
I had two naps today so I am behind in my flickring. That is not a typo.. TWO! I also don't feel a bit ashamed about it. I loved it!
After a good nap, nothing beats a wake up stretch. The tell tale sign of a good stretch is how far the toes are spread on the paws and how high a butt is in the air! The fuzz on her chin is from pulling out winter fur. Love the foxes of the North!
My DSLR was broken, so I used an old Coolpix P510.
For my dear daughter. She loves ducks :) and she encouraged me to post them.
