A black-and-white negative film made in Lyon, France, on October 6, 2022 with my Praktica VLC3 SLR camera and its normal Pentacon electric Multi-Coated 1:1.8 f=50 mm.
The 36-exposure Fomapan 200 film was exposed for 200 ISO following the readings of the Praktica camera or a Minolta Autometer III fitted with a 10° finder privileging the shadow zones.

After exposure the film was developed for è min 30s using Tetenal Ultrafin liquid at dilution 1+20 and 20°C. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body and a Minolta Slide Duplicator with a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5.
About the camera :
The Praktica VLC is of the 3rd generation (VLC3, 1978-1981) and was manufactured by "VEB Pentacon" (formally Zeiss-Ikon) in Dresden, Germany. It came with orignal Pentacon accessories including, a shade hood for its normal lens Pentacon "electric Multi-coated" 1:1,8 f=50mm, a waist finder, a straight magnification finder, and the regular pentaprism. There are also 6 different focusing screens, the Pentacon hot shoe for a flash, lens and body caps, and a Praktica ever-ready case.
The camera has a CdS photometric circuitry powered by an unusual 4.5V battery that I replaced by a set of 3 LR44 alkaline batteries in series. As the ASAHI PENTAX Spomatic SP, the bridge circuit is insensitive to the voltage difference. To be independent of the finders, the cell is functioning behind the mirror as in the Topcon Super D or the Miranda Auto Sensorex EE.
This Praktica operates at full aperture using an electrical transmission of the aperture using 3 contacts on the M42 lens mount. It could however operates any non electric M42 lenses at real aperture too by acting on the rotary switch at the top left. As for the other Praktica of the L series the shutter is made of vertical steel curtains making the X-flash synchro at about 1/125 s.
Overall Pentacon produced 85 000 Praktica VLC between 1974 and 1981 among about 3 millions of Praktica "L" (LLC MTL TL L etc).

Tempest (2020) is a multi-disciplinary project which combines my background in music and the visual arts to negotiate uncertainty in these everchanging times of human created environmental degradation. As human systems accumulate to cause irreversible damage to the environment, the vastness and complexity of the Earth’s destruction becomes overwhelming; and ignorance is seductive in this anthropogenic age.
Through the methodologies of needlework, painting and sound, climate change is anthropomorphised into visible entities. Adapted from the medieval allegory of the “danse macabre”, human skeletons perform as prophetic echoes haunting a dark expanse in a cycle of reflection and warning on the danger and futility of our dominant culture and its separative discourse from the natural world.
Fundamental problems that exist with our dominant culture expose a need for a new story, existing harmoniously within the ecosystem. This needs to value Earth as sacred, not as a resource to be turned into a commodity, but as an integral part that is linked to all of us and every living thing in a symbiotic relationship.

In this work, I have combined what I feel to be the most important aspects of a public artwork.
The first is reference to the site, or location and the second is the function of the place it is sited in.
The lighthouse proposal incorporates the Harbor location as well as considering the function of the police station through the incorporation of the helix configuration.
This work underscores of one of most important developments found in police work today- the strengthened powers of investigation and diminished possibility of error in the delicate process of determining guilt or innocence.

UNICEF staff, Ethiopian government officials, donor partners from the German Embassy and , Italian Agency for Development Cooperation attended The Inauguration of Afdera climate-resilient water scheme in Afdera, Afar Ethiopia on 4, March, 2019. The people of Afar expressed their gratitude for the establishment of water point.
UNICEF, in collaboration with the regional water bureau and water offices, has built eight multi-village schemes (including Afdera) since the 2015/16 El Nino drought. These multi-village schemes are part of a long-term strategy to build climate-resilient infrastructure that reduces vulnerability to shocks and provides improved water service levels to the communities. These systems (some of them to be finalized later this year) are benefitting more than 121,000 drought affected communities in the region. ©UNICEF Ethiopia/2019/Mulugeta Ayene.
