The moon over the fog at Mt Tam yesterday during the sunset time. It may not see the blue moon or the full moon this Friday in San Francisco because the weather with fog. Will wait and see.

Mt. Shuksan is an iconic subject in Washington. It has a wonderful pond that serves as a reflection pool for the tall Cascade peak.
The road to the Mt. Baker ski area and this pond was closed most of the day because a Pacific storm had blown giant cedars over, blocking the road.
The road finally opened again in the late afternoon and I arrived at dusk. The pond was still wind-streaked and the reflection was not very clear. I decided to try a long exposure to see if I could bring out the reflection from the random noise of the ripples and waves. The aquatic vegetation in one part of the pond helped quiet the waves somewhat so I composed the photo there.
The reflection was there; hidden by the ripples and the time exposure "stacked" the image amplifying reflection compared to the random noise of the ripples and waves.
The clouds streaking past the peak never cleared. The upslope wind on the peak insured that it remained wreathed in a cloud.
I returned the next day after the storm cleared and took the iconic image.
By the way, the name of the pond? Picture Lake, of course...

This is another in my continuing series of photos captured from the passenger seat.....except this time the passenger seat was in an airplane - taken on my flight home from Oregon.
I recently got Topaz B&W Effects and have been experimenting with that. Up until now I've been using the presets a lot, but this time I decided to try my hand with doing the processing from scratch. This was a difficult shot to work with I thought - the original was very hazy, and every time I did something in Topaz it seemed like I was adding more noise to the image. I think I could process this many more times and come up with many more interpretations, but for now I'm going with this one.

I can't get enough of Mt. St. Helens so far this summer. I'm thinking about checking out some new mountains... someday.

or otherwise known as "Paradise Meadows." There are miles of these wonderful boardwalks. While it detracts slightly from the wilderness experience for me, I am sure it protects the flora and makes it much easier for seniors and wheel chair access.
Mt. Assiniboine finally revealed itself after being shrouded behind clouds and snow for two days. I was thrilled to see this magnificent peak the morning of my flight out.

After two days of clear weather in our stay in Mount Cook Village the bad weather building up on the western side of the mountain range started to finally creep over.
I stepped out side at 11pm and saw the clouds starting to form illuminated by a full moon, too exhausted from our long day to go anywhere I decided to get a quick shot the other side of the road as cars leaving the closing venues in the village drove by.

For some odd reason I enjoy frequenting this place and definitely have some plans on doing more of it as we enter the colder portion of the Fall season.
The "fake mountain" of Contra Costa County has many interesting vistas. I want to find more.

Mt. Etna is in the east coast of Sicily, Italy. It is one of the world's most active volcanoes. Also, one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe. 3,403 m (11,165 ft).
Mt. Filerimos is the site of the ancient city of Ialyssos. It contains the Church of our Lady, built by the Knights of St. John during the 15th century, and the Church of St. George.
筑波山、夜登山
筑波山は日本百名山の一つです。
西側の男体山（標高871m）と東側の女体山（標高877m）から成り立ちます。
初めてのナイトハイク、ヘッドライトで足元ばかり見ていると、道の標識を見落としたりします。
レストハウスから２０分ほど歩くと主峰女体山（標高877m）に着きます。

Mt.Tsukuba consists of the Mt.Nantaizan (elevation 871 m) on the west side, and the Mt.Nyotaizan (elevation 877 m) on the east side.
If you are just watching at the foot with the first night hike, headlights, you will overlook the sign on the road.
Walk 20 minutes from the rest house and you will arrive at the main mountain lodge mountain (altitude 877 m).
Ruapehu from the Taranaki Falls track, Tongariro National Park. At this point we are already on the mountain at approximately 1250 metres.
It seems I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to altitude. At this level (and we stayed here five nights) my nose bled. Up at around 2200 metres (above the snowline) breathing was a little difficult. So I probably won't grow up to be a mountain climber ;-)
After cresting the grade up Mt Roosevelt the Lhoist North America transfer train to Norfolk Southern pops out of the namesake tunnel on the former Tennessee Central mainline with a high hood Geep leading the way.
