The Rigi (or Mount Rigi; also known as Queen of the Mountains) is a mountain massif of the Alps, located in Central Switzerland. The whole massif is almost entirely surrounded by the water of three different water bodies: Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz. The range is in the Schwyzer Alps, and is split between the cantons of Schwyz and Lucerne, although the main summit, named Rigi Kulm, at 1,798 meters above sea level, lies within the canton of Schwyz.

The Rigi Kulm and other areas, such as the resort of Rigi Kaltbad, are served by Europe's oldest mountain railways, the Rigi Railways. The whole area offers many activities such as skiing or sledging in the winter, and hiking in the summer.

Saw this double rainbow on a hike yesterday and was scrambling to get a shot of it.

Don't let yesterday use up too much of today.

After meeting 105 at Zephyr, CN 104 gets up to track speed through the curve at Mount Albert. At one time a town served by two railways, today the CN Bala Sub, originally built by the Canadian Northern in 1906, sees all traffic on its transcontinental journey.

The other line, arriving in Mount Albert in 1877, was the narrow gauge Lake Simcoe Junction Railway, a subsidiary of the Toronto & Nipissing Railway. The LSJR was constructed from Stouffville Junction to Jackson's Point on Lake Simcoe via Ballantrae, Mount Albert, and Sutton, eventually crossing the Canadian Northern at Zephyr, just north of Queensville Sideroad. Traffic levels dwindled after the construction of both the CNoR, and the Toronto & York Radial Railway to Sutton (opening 1909), resulting in the abandonment of the Sutton Sub between Zephyr and Stouffville Junction in 1928 (service ending in May, and rails lifted by October). Jackson's Point to Sutton had been abandoned in 1927. Redesignated as the CN Sutton Spur in 1960, service would cease in 1979, with the rails being lifted in 1981. The LSJR passed roughly 1000 feet off to the right of this image.

Mount Hercules nestles in the West Coast of NZ South Island somewhere between Harihari and Whataroa and is accessed via the Poerua Valley Road.

This mountain peak really took my fancy and I photographed it several times. While I never got the sunset that I hoped for, the beauty of this location is clear to see. I can only imagine what a really big sunset would look like.

This is by far the largest image I have ever assembled. It is 18 images composited and weighs in at a whopping 600mb. While this is probably overkill (actually who am I kidding - its definitely overkill) I wanted to pick out the detail my eyes could see via binoculars. The birds circling the rocky outcrops (there are two), McCulloughs Creek snaking down and the source of the Hinatua River.

I enjoy staring at these sorts of images because you see more things the closer you look. Having a large composited image means I can zoom in on the natural features for a closer peek. Kind of like a David Attenborough version of Wheres Wally. The clouds in NZ are beautiful filters of light and act as a sort of dappling feature photoshop people would kill to replicate.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this image. The one that made my iMac beg for mercy under the rendering of such a large image! :)

Mount Bromo (Indonesian: Gunung Bromo), is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.

Mount Hood is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc. It was formed by a subduction zone on the Pacific coast and rests in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located about 50 miles (80 km) east-southeast of Portland.

In addition to being Oregon's highest mountain, it is one of the loftiest mountains in the nation based on its prominence, and it offers the only year-round lift-served skiing in North America.

Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, New York, founded in 1838, is one of the United States' first municipal rural cemeteries. Situated on 196 acres (793,000 m²) (0.3 square miles) of land adjacent to the University of Rochester on Mount Hope Avenue, the cemetery is the permanent resting place of over 350,000 people. The annual growth rate of this cemetery is 500-600 burials per year. Mount Hope also contains the ruins of a now outdated catacomb system, most notably with its sealed entrance on the east-facing drumlin upon entering the cemetery from the north. Its alternative entrance (also sealed) can be found in the Sunken Garden of Warner Castle across Mt. Hope Avenue.

There is an amazing view of Hiroshima and Miyajima Island from the top of Mount Misen in Japan. You have to take two ropeway cable cars to get there - and they soar very high over the valley. There are many wild monkeys that occasionally hang out at the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, they were all hiding during my visit!

So very lucky to see Mount Fuji in all it`s glory, affectionately called by the Japanese as the "Shy Mountain" or "Peek a Boo Mountain" as it`s very often shrouded in cloud.

Mount Fuji located on the island of Honshū, is the highest mountain in Japan, with a summit elevation of 3,776.24 m (12,389 ft 3 in). It is the second-highest volcano located on an island in Asia (after Mount Kerinci on the island of Sumatra), and seventh-highest peak of an island on Earth. Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano that last erupted from 1707 to 1708. The mountain is located about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Tokyo and is visible from there on clear days. Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is covered in snow for about five months of the year, is commonly used as a cultural icon of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art and photography, as well as visited by sightseers, hikers and mountain climbers.

Mount Baker in the North Cascades is a popular destination, especially for outdoor enthusiasts, known for its world-class skiing/snowboarding in winter and stunning hiking, biking, and scenic views (like at Artist Point) in summer, drawing crowds to the Mt. Baker Ski Area and surrounding wilderness in the state of Washington.
