Mount Sinai Harbor. Long Island, NY

So very lucky to see Mount Fuji in all it`s glory, affectionately called by the Japanese as the "Shy Mountain" or "Peek a Boo Mountain" as it`s very often shrouded in cloud.

Mount Fuji located on the island of Honshū, is the highest mountain in Japan, with a summit elevation of 3,776.24 m (12,389 ft 3 in). It is the second-highest volcano located on an island in Asia (after Mount Kerinci on the island of Sumatra), and seventh-highest peak of an island on Earth. Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano that last erupted from 1707 to 1708. The mountain is located about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Tokyo and is visible from there on clear days. Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is covered in snow for about five months of the year, is commonly used as a cultural icon of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art and photography, as well as visited by sightseers, hikers and mountain climbers.

From 1957 to 1980, Mount Umunhum was used as an air force station. The Midpensula purchased the land in 1986. After years of cleaning and reconstruction, the Summit and trails officially opened to the public in September 2017. The hike to the Summit is 7.4 miles with elevation gain 1150 feet.

This was a highlight for me as I love mountains so much.

What a treat it was to watch the sun setting on the edge of the lake at the base of Mount Cook after a 5 kilometre walk down Hooker Valley Track over 3 swing bridges...sigh...💗

You can see the moon above the mountains 🌙

Mount Makiling, or Mount Maquiling, is a dormant volcano located on the border of Laguna province and Batangas on the island of Luzon, Philippines. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,090 m (3,580 ft) above mean sea level and is the highest feature of the Laguna Volcanic Field. The volcano has no recorded historic eruption but volcanism is still evident through geothermal features like mud spring and hot springs. South of the mountain is the Makiling-Banahaw Geothermal Plant. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) classifies the volcano as potentially active.

Mount Makiling is a state-owned forest reserve administered by the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Prior to its transfer to the university, the mountain was the first national park of the Philippines. Mount Makiling National Park was established on February 23, 1933 by Proclamation No. 552. However, it was decommissioned as a national park on June 20, 1963 by Republic Act no. 3523 when it was transferred to the University for use in forestry education and information.[2]

The mountain is sacred to many pilgrims and is widely believed to be the home of an anito named Maria Makiling. It is one of the most known bundok dambanas in Calabarzon. It was declared as an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2013, with the title of "Mount Makiling Forest Reserve. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Makiling

Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon. It was formed by a subduction zone and rests in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located about 50 miles (80 km) east-southeast of Portland, on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. In addition to being Oregon's highest mountain, it is one of the loftiest mountains in the nation based on its prominence.

A small cascade tumbles in the Mount Hood National Forest. We often see the top part of this falls but rarely do we see this lower portion. This is one I am planning on hitting this winter in the fresh snow!

In the last hour of sunlight on a pleasant late May evening, a heavy southbound freight carrying mostly lumber from the Pacific Northwest descends over Dry Canyon Viaduct and past the north switch of Hotlum siding on the western slope of Mount Shasta. Two DPU (distributed power unit) locomotives are on the rear providing some braking assistance on the long descent towards Dunsmuir. The moon is just beginning to rise near the left edge of the frame.

On my way back from a Panther Creek Falls trip, the views of Mt Hood were just fantastic in midday light. Out of the many shots I took of the wondrous mountain, this one is my favorite. This row of skeletonized winter trees were dancing and caressing the mountain in a whimsical way and I was doing my best here to capture that feeling I got in that moment.

Sába loves it. Going up there means she'll get some treats for posing, and those vantage points are naturally preferred places for dogs. Well, not for enjoying the panorama better, but you know, sniffing and looking around from up there is much more interesting for a dog. She's a 7 yrs old cane corso female, by the way.

The haunted Mount Washington Hotel

Bretton, NH

March 25th, 2018

Some history on the reported haunting:

"The Widowed Bride of Mount Washington

As part of Italian tradition and superstition, the artisans and laborers who built the Mount Washington Hotel varied the number of steps to the second floor (thirty-three from the registration area and thirty-one in the South Tower) to confuse ghosts in the hotel.

The stairs haven’t confused one ghost in particular. Carolyn Stickney, the widowed bride of the Mount Washington Hotel’s owner, played a principal role in the development of the hotel and visited the hotel season every year. She became known as “the Princess” after marrying French royal, Prince Jean Baptiste Marie de Faucigny Lucinge, and often held extravagant parties in her own private dining room, now called the Princess Lounge. After her death in 1936, caretakers and managers prowling the property during the winter hibernation months reported catching glimpses of the Princess descending the stairs for dinner or lights switching on and off in one of the towers.

The Princess often returns to a third-floor guest room at the Mount Washington Hotel, where her four poster maple bed still resides. Several guests staying in that room have reported being awakened to find a woman sitting at the end of the bed, brushing her hair.

Hotel employees often pose for photos in front of the hotels veranda and one year, employees made a startling discovery in an enhanced photo. When the picture was blown up, viewers could see a woman in the window of the Princess’s room. No one had checked into the room and it was said to be vacant.

The haunting of the Carolyn Stickney and the Princess Room also caught the attention of Sci-Fi’s Ghost Hunters."

One of our little hikes!

The Rigi (or Mount Rigi; also known as Queen of the Mountains) is a mountain massif of the Alps, located in Central Switzerland. The whole massif is almost entirely surrounded by the water of three different water bodies: Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz. The range is in the Schwyzer Alps, and is split between the cantons of Schwyz and Lucerne, although the main summit, named Rigi Kulm, at 1,798 meters above sea level, lies within the canton of Schwyz.

Mount Everest is situated at the edge of the Tibetan Plateau , on the border between Nepal and Tibet.

The mountain was named for Sir George Everest, a British military engineer who served as surveyor general of India from 1829 to 1843, during which time the peak was surveyed. Everest was the first person to record the location and height of the mountain, then known as Peak XV. Most Nepali people refer to the mountain as Sagarmatha, meaning "Forehead in the Sky." Speakers of Tibetan languages, including the Sherpa people of northern Nepal, refer to the mountain as Chomolungma, Tibetan for "Goddess Mother of the World."
