This little bugger had been flitting around me most of the evening. Eventually landed inside my iced-tea glass, so I covered the glass to prevent escape.
These shots were through the side of the glass.

This was my bed in Puerto Viejo at the Coco Loco Lodge. Totally cool place to stay...and yes, the mosquito net is necessary!
The markings looks like pictures of an Asian tiger mosquito, but I am not at all certain of the ID. I do know it was a male, because of its feathery antennae, and because, unlike its female friends, it was not biting me.
Mosquito at 25x magnification. This is an image stack of 8 pictures. They're shot using an iPhone hand-held up to one eyepiece of a Wild Heerbrugg microscope from the 60s, with the specimen illuminated using a FiberLight. I used the other eyepiece to manually focus, and then combined the pictures in Photoshop. The process obviously leaves a lot to be desired, but it's at least an interesting experiment.
This mosquito was buzzing around me while I was processing some photos so I smashed it between my hands. I then had to set up my camera with one hand. I think the magnification was 2x.

The aircraft is the only surviving RAAF-operated Mosquito with a wartime operational history, and the only PR Mk XVI left anywhere in the world. The aircraft was purchased by a Mildura orchardist who, due to difficulties in transporting the aircraft, severed the wings and rear fuselage with a chainsaw, and after experimenting with farm uses, turned the fuselage into a play house for his children.

Although it looks like a mosquito, this helicopter is used for anti mosquito spraying of the marshes and little water ponds in Pineios Delta.
Mosquitoes are a family of small, midge-like flies, the Culicidae. Although a few species are harmless or even useful, most cause a nuisance by sucking blood from vertebrates, including humans. Several of the most harmful human and livestock diseases are transmitted by mosquitoes during feeding. Accordingly, some authorities argue that mosquitoes are the most dangerous animals on earth.
