Mosquito Falls
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Michigan
Mosquito Falls, located in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, is a hidden gem for those seeking a peaceful escape into nature. This small yet picturesque waterfall cascades over rocky ledges along the Mosquito River, creating a tranquil scene surrounded by lush forest. Though not the largest waterfall in the park, its secluded charm and the soothing sounds of rushing water make it a rewarding destination for those exploring the natural beauty of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
Last Friday an old colleague, he was my manager some time ago, invited me to go and see him fly so that I could take some picalillies of the event.
What you see is a deltawing and attached to is a Mosquito. The deltawing is from Italy and the Mosquito is from Sweden if I remember correctly. The Mosquito is a sleepingbag with an engine attached to it.
To take off, he starts running and simultaneously revvs the shit of that little engine. The wing does its thing and it lifts up and he's air airborne. Then he has to get his legs into the sleepingbag and zip up and retract the landing gear (two legs at the end). As far as he knows, he is the only one in the country who has one of these.
It's super cool. A man can fly, by himself!
Wanting to become bug splatter......please note, the nicely in focus mosquito in the top left of the image. Pure fluke.
Mosquito Falls are located in Michigan's Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The Falls consist of two short drops. One is of about 5ft and the other about 10-11ft. (pictured)
Its a little over a one mile hike that is kind of rugged and a little challenging. The scenic views on the way up there are so beautiful and breathtaking. Well worth the climb!

Early morning. Trying to find Yellow-winged Darters (Sympetrum flaveolum) in an area where I photographed them for the last time, as a young boy, in 2011.
But I ran into a problem. I ran out of 'Off', a Finnish version of mosquito repellent. Medvastö in Kirkkonummi is a wet area, and due to serious amounts of rain, it was a very very wet area this year. Hundreds of mosquitos, perhaps thousands, who love this wet environment were coming for me... and I couldn't handle'm, as I didn't have my magic spray. Yes, I did find the Yellow-winged Darters, but so did the mosquitos find me.
Well, got a couple of nice shots, softens the itching. Happy Days.
I wish I could say that the mosquitoes were bad this day, but the only thing this photo proves is that they weren't.

Thanks to mild winters and moist air, mosquitoes are thriving in Germany. And not just the native species.

Today I was attacked by two and a half million mosquitoes while photographing this fence in St. James Farm in Warrenville, Illinois.
Returning lite engine to Springfield, IORY 5007 crosses over Mosquito Lake Trestle north of St. Pairs, OH as evening settles in. Normally, the I&O doesn't run road trains over the weekends on the former DT&I, but on this day, they ran to Lima for an important switch job.
