For me, fall is a time where the brisk air and the falling leaves makes me want to reflect, get outside, and gain some perspective. This past weekend in the Highlands was no exception hashtag#MountainsAreCalling hashtag#ExploreCarolinas hashtag#Roadtrip www.mcmannisphotographic.com

Sometimes you just have to go for it. Heard the news that the "greenies", 1687 & 1458 were eastbound on a stack they picked up at Staples.
Unfortunately, the sun would set before they got close. They made good time though and with some usable light left, I decided it wouldn't hurt to try.
With warm temps, melting snow has allowed for some spots to come back into play that are buried in snow, though now they're a bit muddy.
As far as dark action shots go, it's not too bad all things considered.
Nice to see these free of the Northtown transfer assignments for a change.

The sun was trying hard to shine but the clouds weren't ready to part enough.

Revisiting my trip to ONP back in 2018 this week.
Growing up in Ireland I was permanently cold in the small country town that I grew up in in the 60s/70s. I would literally hug the radiator at the back of the classroom at my convent school looking out the window at the moody rainy sky and dreaming of warmer climes and blue skies. I would skip class and bury my head in books by the convent library heater and read books by the likes of Lawrence Durrell and dreamed of the calm blue mediterranean sky and seas.
As soon as I finished school - I ran out of Ireland , on a one way ticket, to travel and chase the sun and the warmth and ended up choosing Australia - and ultimately Bondi Beach - as the place where I lay my hat. Up until four years ago - pre camera days - it was the summer and the spring that were my seasons.
But now the autumn and the winter have become my favourite - the skies, the weather, the surf , the moodiness, the deserted beaches.
And now...well now, I keep putting off going back to Ireland as I am afraid, if I return, I will not leave . The camera has led me down a path where I now love mist, rain, mood, changing light, stormy wild seas, the empty beaches ...the greens .
It does appear my fine flickr friends that you can take the girl out of the country........but not the country out of the girl ;).
A moody morning at Mardale, low clouds, a big boulder makes for a shot.

Pulled up the shadows on this one, meaning that there is more image noise than I'd like, but it's acceptable for this shot. The kingfisher gave me an interesting pose on an exposed perch during the rainstorm, giving a nice view of the cattails in the background.

A rework of a previous picture I took back in April 2013.
Some may remember the earlier version which had substantially less sky. After the hail, rain and wind kicked my ass on the slopes of the Devil's Staircase I managed to get 7 or 8 frames off before the sky returned to what you usually associate with Glencoe.
Some frames had less sky with more foreground, and some had less foreground with a big sky. This is one of the big sky frames which I've decided to process in the hope after nearly 2 years my processing has improved.

Cold, early morning at Wast Water. Waited while a very heavy snow shower passed and the strong winds blew in a few clear patches…. bracing.

Another shot from my Swaledale jaunt, and another image of the Old Gang Smelting Mill. We had a very moody sky but every so often we’d get pools of light poking through, highlighting parts of the scene.
This was the first outing with my new camera backpack, the Prvke Lite, which although small and light, can nevertheless carry a decent amount of gear. You can catch my in depth review on the bag on my YouTube
channel; details in my bio.
