Spent a few days in Shiga Kogen this winter.... And every time I'm in Shiga Kogen I also visit these cool monkeys, about 30 min from the ski resort.... Just love them!!!
This is the remarkable ant-mimic nymph of a "true bug" in the family Miridae of the order Heteroptera, Hemiptera, probably Closterocoris amoenus. See my [Next] photo for the less ant-like adult. If you look close, you can see its proboscis stuck into the flower petal - also its faux nodal spine, and that green patch below its abdomen that helps create the illusion that it is wasp-waited like a real ant. This one is perched on the petal of a flower of Southern Bush Monkey Flower (Mimulus aurantiacus var. pubescens aka Diplacus longiflorus, Phrymaceae). It's not the best photo, but good enough! The Mantled Howler (Alouatta palliata), or Golden-mantled Howling Monkey, is a species of howler monkey, a type of New World monkey, from Central and South America. It is one of the monkey species most often seen and heard in the wild in Central America. It takes its "mantled" name from the long guard hairs on its sides.
This photo took a lot more than my other monkey shot's. For twenty minute's long I tried to get the perfect shot. And after those twenty minute's these three monkey's looked straight at me. Perfect
