A US-based company named Wikispeed has adopted the same approach with the design of the SGT01, a car designed as a modular platform which will empower suppliers to innovate freely. Each part of the car is a component that fits into a standard interface. For example, when the engine wears out, it can be removed and replaced in one piece, like a tire. Although they are still seeking funding to go into full production, they have designed a 4-seater commuter car that gets up to 114 miles per gallon and can sell for $20,000 using this approach. Although it's not in production yet, you can still order one today on the internet.

Thunderbird 2 is one of the famous International Rescue ships from Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's brilliant Supermarionation special effects landmark show Thunderbirds circa 1960's. It was a heavy transporter ... characterized by its interchangeable modular cargo pods that filled the center body section . This design was the precursor to Space 1999's Eagle transport ship.

For this design, I took my Space Cruiser Kutrilla concept and lengthened the body and changed the wings slightly. Thunderbird 2 was also the inspiration for that design as well. Shots of it along other ships can be found in www.flickr.com/photos/tend2it/sets/72157629239861575/

here workers install the modular panels in tounge and groove fashion.
the footing was poured, the wood post and beam set ,and then roof was installed. once the frame was set (in 4'-4" and 6'-4" spacing) modular panels (built off-site in nearby Kirkwood, MO) were brought to the site. The panels arrived with exterior Rosewood Sheathing and insulation installed. This allowed the builders to have the house dried-in in less than one day.
