Because oak is a hard wood, we had some burn marks that had to be cleaned up before finishing.

My first ever model boat [ built about 1987 ]

Weather terrible for boating today, so did some ballasting tests with the TGB lifeboat in the domestic test tank( which has the secondary function of bath)

My old pilot boat, now in the care fo fellow clubmember Dougie Fitzsimmonds and looking very fine indeed .

The Chili con Carne at the Waterline was very good today. I recommend it.

Boathouse No. 4 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard last Tuesday 11th April 2017. This exhibit is a Fairey Huntress and I found it most compelling. In addition to the grand exhibits I always enjoy wooden boats having grown up with them on the Norfolk Broads and curated them on the Firth of Clyde (with a museum director who went onto direct the Royal Naval Museum at Portsmouth). Boathouse No 4. is a shrine to wooden boats of all types and signifcant apprentice schemes ensure the skills for their survival will be taught. The notion of a Fairey Huntress may make you contemplate a Swordfish Torpedo Bomber but Fairey built many boats. The point about this design is that it is a Bond star and the location that From Russia with Love used was Loch Crinan which we stayed beside in 2010. Model Boats at Witless Bay Newfoundland

With over 3075 T37 Racing Sloops sailing across the world, T37 fleets have emerged around the US to bring like-minded sailors and racers together for competitive and fun racing! Whether match-racing with just two boats or sailing with 20 others, T37 sailing is fun for sailors of all ages and experiences.

Some of the biggest T37 fleets are located in the Pacific Northwest; one of the fastest growing of these fleets is the Port Townsend, Washington fleet. Since its formation only a few years ago, the fleet has grown from zero boats to 43 boats.

Because the T37 Racing Sloop is a one-design class, sailors do not have to buy expensive boats or fancy sails to 'get an edge'; instead, T37 racing is about strategy and model boat racing skills.

1-72 scale RC model of a former flagship of the Australian Navy.

Auckland- Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum

Scale models or toy boats from Lines Bros variously sold over the years under the brands of 'Penguin', 'Triang' and 'Scalex'. From the Meccano Magazine August 1954. A simple Purchasing Power Calculator would say the relative value of 45 shillings – the price of the ‘Pretoria Castle’ is now £53.75 – so quite an expensive toy or scale model. Still many hours of work to do but at least I now know how much ballast is required.

The smokestack turned out a bit sloppy for my liking. The decal there is the original -- had I more time I might have attempted recreating a new one on decal paper.
