VANCOUVER - Many of the 26 women Robert Willy Pickton is accused of killing appear in a police poster as mug shots -- blank eyes cratered into sallow, ravaged faces, hair pushed out of the way. Now and again a smile peeks through, out of focus or blurry because a friend or relative didn't quite get the exposure right.

There are a few -- Andrea Joesbury, Tanya Holyk -- whose beauty offers a startling diversion.

Heather Bottomley grins impishly.

Sereena Abotsway looks sad. Sherry Irving just looks young.

But all blend into the macabre patchwork quilt that makes up the 66 faces on the police's missing women poster.

Some were hard-core, some relatively recent inhabitants in the Downtown Eastside, an area a former B.C. premier described once as a "terrible human zoo." Some weren't even prostitutes, according to friends.

On Jan. 22, Port Coquitlam pig farmer Robert Willy Pickton will go on trial for six of their deaths. That day, the beginning of what promises to be a long, grinding and disturbing process, the public will hear for the first time the Crown's grim allegations of how these women died.

Pickton now faces 26 charges of murder -- six of which will be dealt with in the trial starting next week. He is to face the remaining 20 murder charges in a later trial.

Maggy Gisle, who knew many of the women and considered some close friends, lived the rough street life for 16 years. She went through rehab an astounding 22 times before getting clean, regaining her son, caring for her daughter and holding down a job as a homecare worker on the Sunshine Coast.

She and her best friend, Cara Ellis, promised each other that whoever got out first would rescue the other.

Gisle got out and went back. Ellis wasn't there.

"I miss her terribly. I'm still trying to get used to the idea she's not going to come around that corner. 'Cause I always believed that she would."

Day 66:

Lately my photography has been hit or miss, nothing consecutive. It has varied from day to day. It's rough, it frustrates me a lot, I'd really like a whole week of just hits, but that's not the case.

I am, however, trying my best to be optimistic about it. The way I am looking at it is whether I believe the day to be a hit or a miss, it is still a day and a step closer to my redemption and I knew coming into this that it wouldn't be a complete 100% hit.

I am just hoping I can give a higher percent of hits than misses when it is all said and done.

This old farmhouse has seen better days. The Smieczno Farma--its name according to a deteriorating sign posted on a tree near this tumble-down home-- has been long abandoned. It greatly appeals to the genealogist in me.

I wonder about the people who lived here: While i know their last name, or think I do, I wonder what they did here and if they were happy. I think about the various reasons why this place might have fallen into decay. Most of all, I wonder if anyone can recall their faces.

The Cathedral of Pavia (Italian: Duomo di Pavia) is a church in Pavia, Italy, the largest in the city and seat of the Diocese of Pavia. The construction (presently still unfinished in some minor details) was begun in the 15th century on the site of two pre-existing Romanesque, "twin" cathedrals (Santo Stefano and Santa Maria del Popolo). The cathedral houses the remains of St. Sirus, first Bishop of Pavia, and a thorn from the Crown of Thorns worn by Christ.

Until recently, next to the cathedral stood the Civic Tower (Torre Civica), known in 1330 and enlarged in 1583. It collapsed on March 17 1989.

History[edit]

The cathedral was begun in 1488 under architect Cristoforo Rocchi, soon replaced by Giovanni Antonio Amadeo and Gian Giacomo Dolcebuono. The original project, with a nave and two aisles flanked by semicircular niches and a large central dome, was influenced by Bramante, some details of it later appearing in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Also Leonardo da Vinci is known to have contributed to the project.

In 1521 the altar area was completed by a pupil of Da Vinci. By the 17th century, the presbytery had been completed but only in the following century was the tambour built, while the dome itself and the facade had to wait for the 19th century. The dome was designed by Carlo Maciachini and completed in 1885, but partially collapsed that same year. In the 1930 the construction continued with the two arms of the transept, for which the original plan was followed, although using reinforced concrete (in order to save the remains of the medieval Santa Maria del Popolo). The arms are still missing part of the internal marble decoration.

Eight years, one month, and twelve days. Finally, Sydney's first tooth is out. And it had to be extracted. It was loose for a while and the gums around it were starting to get infected, so the dentist pulled it out.

My wife finished her work but can’t find out where the missing glove could be. Turned out the puppy next door knew the answer. The glove is now an orphan.
