Something's Missing

There used to be buildings here back in the early 1970s. That's the 9th Street side of the Benjamin Franklin Residences. There was a Vitamin Specialties shop on the corner. I used to work there in 1973. Now it is just a parking lot.

MISSING! Summer., not been seen for weeks. If you have any information relating to this don’t bother contacting me as I’ve jetted off in search of one.

Holy crap, has it really been almost a year and a half since I posted? I've gotten distracted by a pesky thing called a "job". But hasn't been all work - I've also done a ton of cycling. I really miss expressing my creative side. And I'm missing flickr and seeing all your fabulous photos. New vow - make time for my creative. Hoping I can find a way to be somewhat consistent in creating and posting.

We're Here theme = signs. Missing person sign.....

This is also a continuation of my 100x project.

I don't go to a lot of games, but dang - sure would love to be able to go to one now. I shot this at Comerica Park in Detroit - back when we could be near people.

... pieces of mirror glass in a glass sculpture created by the Belgian artist Julien Moreels...

Missing pieces do more than complete the puzzle,

they fill in an empty space.

I've been going to Ames Park for over 20 years, and have seen many changes. Some of the artistic elements have been destroyed by time and weather, or even vandalism and neglect, and it's a reminder to hold loosely to things and tightly to memories.

This owl carving, which appears to have been carved from a palm tree, or some kind of fibrous wood, has withstood more than some of the cement decorations, but this year its marble eyes have gone missing. I've wondered if they will be replaced, and have even considered replacing them myself, provided I wouldn't be accused of vandalism by doing so! I sincerely hope that the eyes came out because of all the storms we've had, and not someone stealing them.

You can see other pics of the owl with its eyes intact in my Ames Park albums.

思念是一种很玄的东西

如影随形

无声又无息出没在心底

转眼吞没我在寂默里

Missing someone is a very mysterious thing

Like a shadow following a person

Quietly appearing at the bottom of the heart

In an instant, Engulfing me in loneliness

I will do anything, just for you

When you think you've driven too far, keep driving another 50 miles along HWY 71 and you'll come across this old windmill on the western side of the highway. The remoteness of this relic is quite astonishing. I'm sure I'll revisit it many times again looking for that really cool shot, as I feel something is still missing on this canvas ...

Well, they're now there holding you up when you drive across the new, eastern Bay Bridge, so fear not.

The area in the background with the cyan color shift is (was) the infamous "S-Curve" temporary section that always seemed crazy to have ever been the way it was. But, I suppose a sketchy solution is better than none.

In any case, thanks for stopping by for something a little different.

I walking the woods always good to look up. I saw this tree with all the missing branches - wonder what did that?
