Sassy and I went up to the Mt Rainer area for Valentines Day weekend to spend some "away time" together. We left the dogs, cell phones, TV and all the noise of Seattle behind, for two days and two nights in the area of Ashford, WA. We have a favorite little restaurant at the Copper Creek Inn that we go to for meals, so the whole time is devoted to R&R.
It rained most of the first day and night we were there. No problem, Sassy likes to play games on her laptop, and I usually open up a good book. The one I started while we were there, is a real page turner. I'm not quite done with it, so as soon as I'm done checking in here, I'm off to bed to escape into the pages of a very enjoyable exciting read. I can't wait to see how it's rapped up. It's a paperback I picked up at Costco, ... The Devil's Punchbowl by Greg Iles. A new author for me, but I'm hoping he has more to come.
It stopped raining a little on Sunday afternoon, so while Sassy was playing her games, I ventured out with my D300, Sigma10-20 on a tripod, into the woods not far from the cabin. The Mt Rainier area is so beautiful, as you can see, and I was there too.
Well .....I'm off to do some reading and hope to catch up on Flicker soon. So until then ....happy mid Feb. Spring's already here in Seattle WA!

The World War II Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial is the only American military cemetery in the Netherlands. The cemetery site has a rich historical background, lying near the famous Cologne-Boulogne highway built by the Romans and used by Caesar during his campaign in that area. The highway was also used by Charlemagne, Charles V, Napoleon, and Kaiser Wilhelm II. In May 1940, Hitler's legions advanced over the route of the old Roman highway, overwhelming the Low Countries. In September 1944, German troops once more used the highway for their withdrawal from the countries occupied for four years.
The cemetery's tall memorial tower can be seen before reaching the site, which covers 65.5 acres. From the cemetery entrance the visitor is led to the Court of Honor with its pool reflecting the tower. At the base of the tower facing the reflecting pool is a statue representing a mother grieving her lost son. To the right and left, respectively, are the Visitor Building and the map room containing three large, engraved operations maps with texts depicting the military operations of the American armed forces. Stretching along the sides of the court are Tablets of the Missing on which are recorded 1,722 names. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified.

149 seconds on the banks of Loch Achray, before sunrise on a very still and misty autumn morning.
Our landscape is changing so quickly now... Summer is just a faint memory.
Whilst autumn is a great time to be outdoors... there's only a few weeks left before we are plunged into the perpetual darkness of winter, and pretty soon I'll be back to being a weekend only photographer :-(

Missing are the upper stones, referred to as the capstones or topstones, "buck and doe," or "cock and hen." Usually, different craftsmen have their own individual ways of topping a wall; it's very much a matter of personal style and preference.
Trev came to the conclusion that someone had stolen them, as they were not in need of replacing and they were definitely in place a few days previous to this shot being taken!
Oh, how I was missing this! A lazy morning, hanging around alone with my camera, finding places, meeting people!

The old elevator and the old search light signals have since been torn down & finding a pair of Mac's lead a coal train is near impossible these days.

Nagsasa Cove is a 45 minute boat ride from the shores of Pundaquit, Zambales. Aetas are the most common locals of the place and they are very friendly and accommodating especially if you need a guide in getting around the corners of Nagsasa Cove (trekking and hiking) and other nearby islands.
Yes...I miss this cove.
Never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, there
are others who have endured and may still be enduring the
agonies of pain, deprivation and imprisonment.
The empty places at the table represent Americans still
missing from each of the five branches of the military.
The table is round to show our everlasting concern for our
missing men and women.
The tablecloth is white symbolizing the purity of their
intentions to respond to their Country's call to arms.
The single red rose in the vase signifies the blood they may
have shed in sacrifice. The rose also reminds us of the
family and friends of our missing comrades who keep faith
while awaiting their return.
The vase is tied with a red ribbon, symbol of our continued
determination to account for our missing.
The slice of lemon on the plate reminds us of their bitter
fate.
The salt sprinkled on the plate reminds us of the countless
fallen tears of families as they wait.
The glass is inverted; they cannot toast with us at this
time.
The chair is empty, They are NOT here.
The candle is reminiscent of the light of hope that lives in
our hearts to illuminate their way home to open arms of a
grateful Nation.
Americans should never forget the men and women who answered
our Nations call to duty.
