The Millennium Bridge, London.
The weather in London during our vacation was simply gorgeous. Very sunny, clear blue skies and warm. We took a nice walk along the Thames and I found this perspective quite interesting.

An early morning shot of the Millennium Bridge without any people crossing it and a nice blue sky above. The lines in the image are wonderful. Let me know your thoughts.

The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the City of London.
The red swing bridge in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is one of seven bridges that span the river tyne. There's only one other place in England with seven bridges like Newcastle's. Any idea where these are? I'll tell you they are on the other side of the river tyne in Gateshead.
Millennium Bridge, London
Although there is constant foot traffic across the Millennium Bridge, very few people show up on a long exposure. The solitary couple are the only ones to be captured during the exposure... they must have content to stand and watch the river traffic and world in general pass them by during the sunset hour.
It's off to work they go. Observing commuters on Friday morning. A misty grey November day. Made me feel better that I have always worked within walking distance of home. Retirement looms so not even that for much longer ;-)
I was meant to talk about some of my pictures last night in our weekly camera club meeting as we hosted a 10x10 night (10 members each show and talk about 10 of their pictures). As it turns out we only got through 6 or 7 photographers before we ran out of time and as I was last on the programme I didn't get the chance.
At any rate, you won't be surprised to learn that my 10 pictures were on the theme of vintage lenses and I wanted to demonstrate how manual lenses could be used both creatively, using bokeh, and as a straight forward prime lens for shooting every day shots, in the same way you'd use any modern AF lens. This was one of the images I was going to show and it's of a long exposure night shot that I took with my Nikkor 50mm f1.2 in London last August. I have no idea what aperture I set the lens to for this, I suspect 5.6 or thereabouts. But I think it illustrates just how capable these old lenses still are. The colour is lively and quite nicely rendered and this lens certainly does not disappoint where it concerns sharpness for this type of shot.
From my walk along Thames on a beautiful summer day, I got a wonderful view over at St. Paul's Cathedral when crossing The Millennium Bridge.
The bridge crosses over from Tate Modern.
This is about the only time the millennium bridge opens on the Newcastle quayside. It's when the pleasure boat heads down river to the coast, it's a lovely trip in the summer time. This shot was taken from the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. There's a balcony there with great views of the river. I held my camera above the glass barriers to get this shot.

…Oltre le braci dei ponti che bruciavano dietro di noi cercavamo
Uno sguardo del verde sull’altra sponda
Passi avanti ma sonnambuli si tornava indietro
Trascinati dalla forza d'una marea interiore…
…Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide…
Bankside, London
Whenever we go down to London for a short break I always try and get a few early morning shots before breakfast. Not that 7am is particularly early, but for a major city I always find it surprising how few people are up and about over the weekend. Unlike New York, which is truly the city that doesn’t sleep... but that’s another story!
I was aiming to experiment with long exposures but the sky wasn’t playing ball, but you have to try these things. It could have been an interesting shot had the six brightly, and I mean brightly, attired runners crossing the bridge registered in the shot but even the slowest runner was too quick to even leave a ghost impression.
In camera the image didn’t look too bad but back home on the computer it was a little disappointing. I’ve processed it to reflect the conditions at the time of shooting (dull and flat) by de-saturating what little colour there was with the exception of the glass walkway panels.
The Millennium Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Morača River.
The bridge was designed by the Slovenian company Ponting and Mladen Ulićević, a professor at Faculty of Civil Engineering in Podgorica. It was built by the Slovenian company Primorje, and opened on July 13, 2005, Montenegro's National Day. It quickly became one of the city's most prominent landmarks.
The bridge is 173 metres long, and the pylon soars 57 m above the roadbed. Twelve cables support the roadway deck, while twenty-four more are attached to the counterweights, creating an imposing image.
The construction of the bridge began in 2005, and the building cost was approximately 7 million euros. The roadway carries two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian walkway in each direction. The bridge connects the Boulevard of Ivan Crnojević in the city centre and July 13 street in the new part of city, thus relieving the other congested bridges connecting the city center with the densely populated districts over the Morača river.
