For the last couple of times there have been small flocks of migrating Pine Siskin that try to hook a ride on the whale watch boat. Some people were very willing to provide a resting perch, others are startled and horrified, shooing them off like mosquitos. But .... it was neat to watch the willing ones encourage the others (simply through their enjoyment) to be calm and welcoming.

Blurb: The centerpiece is an African/ African-American woman with eyes closed and large hoop earrings. Yellow background, landscape view of the Capitol. "Part of the The Georgia Avenue Global Mural, this piece is one of the five murals created along one of Washington, DC's main corridors, Georgia Avenue, as part of a grant-funded project that explored the city's cultural and social issues. This particular mural is titled The Great African Migration, and portrays the immigration of people of the African Diaspora emerging into Washington's communities. Being a first generation American of Ethiopian descent, this painting reflects Helina's own personal narrative. The mural project was coordinated by artist Joel Bergner with funding through a grant from the DC commission on the Arts and Humanities." More at www.metaartist.com/murals.html

DOT Art partnered with the Haiti Cultural Exchange to present a mural on the corrugated fence at Caton Avenue between Ocean Avenue and St. Paul’s Place in Brooklyn. Titled, “Migration,” by artist Madjeen Isaac, the mural visualized the journey of immigrant residents to the Flatbush neighborhood and the ways in which they carry the legacy of their ancestors. “Migration” represented Isaac’s first public mural and the first DOT Art project presented in partnership with the Haiti Cultural Exchange.
