This is Boy's surface, constructed with Orbit molecule units on loan from my school's chemistry department. Polygonal configuration deduced using Ken Brakke's Surface Evolver and an adaptation of the Bryant-Kusner parametrization. This construction was an integral component of my senior year math research.

I am very fond of this model, because a) the projective plane is cool, and b) this embedding has pretty trilateral symmetry. :)

Deaf since birth, without aid from interpreters until fifth grade, Chris Cayton struggled in school and graduated from high school without ambition, lacking both basic education skills and a sense of self-worth.

The birth of his son Grant in 2007 motivated him to change and he entered the welding program at Lower Columbia College, graduating with honors in 2011.

For Cayton’s effort to prevail over his disability, the state Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges honored him with a $500 “Transforming Lives” award. The award honors students and graduates who overcame barriers to pursue degrees and certificates in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) or other high-demand occupations.

Cayton is an apprentice with the Plumbers & Steam Fitters Union Local 290. He is working on a construction project at the OHSU South Waterfront campus in Portland.

IHTSW?! Number

WIT: Helping my eldest with math homework (nothing like waiting for the last minute) gave me the idea for this assignment. I thought of several things. Some were too personal, some were too boring (who really cares to see how much longer is left on my washing machine or what the clock on the stove looks like). I just didn't get out of the house to look for and photograph interesting house numbers and packaging didn't appeal to me. I'm pleased with how this turned out.

In post, I played with levels and did a square crop.

Math symbols in pattern form. Pure geeky delight.

When we were waiting in Line to see Anime Idols Final round we saw this painting and my friend made a comment about these painting not being nailed down and someone might steal them.

I took one look at it and saw all sorts of numbers and was like "No ones gonna want this its got math on it, looking at it hurts my brain." (I've had to have math the last 3 semesters in college and i'm rather tired of it) and she comes back with "Yeah, this painting sucks if i could pee upwards I'd pee on it." and i was like omg xDD
