Macro Mondays theme: Cotton

My binraker husband brought in a discarded sequin art kit about a week before Christmas. I had some flocked black adhesive paper for lining jewelry boxes, so I thought I would try a little miniature string art with the tiny pins. The circle has a diameter of 7cm (~2.75 inches). He had just been talking about filography, the art of thread sculpture, and remembering a large piece he had done in wire in the 80s. I remembered the popularity of the trend but never got around to trying it. Now I can say I have. It had its moments, but the pins in the polystyrene had trouble resisting the pull of the thread, found when I cleared out my mom's stuff a few years back. The No. 8 pearl cotton thread was manufactured by Anchor Coats in Pakistan. It seems fitting that the video tutorial I followed was done by a Pakistani artist. The title is a reference to the math involved. No, I do not understand it but find it all fascinating just the same.

You can really notebook anything, even Math !

A macro view of a calculator keypad depicting fuzzy math and murky numbers. The frame represents a span of one-inch.

This was one of the most boring-looking calculators I have ever seen in my entire life; I bought it for $1 at a Dollar Tree store. And when I put it under the lens it looked even worse. In fact, the closer I looked, the less photogenic it got. I have a theory that every subject has magic, it just needs to be revealed. Well, it took me more than 200 shots, with varying lenses and light configurations, to "reveal" this scene that you see here. I hope you like it...

Strobist info:

The scene was illuminated by one Nikon SB900 speedlight with snoot attached, placed 11- o'clock, slightly above camera level, and fired in Manual mode @ 1⁄32 power.

The SB900 was triggered by two PocketWizard Plus X triggers.

Lens: Helios 44M-4 f2/58mm with 20mm extension tube attached. (The aperture was f2, rather than the f3.5 that is listed in the EXIF).

Is a tripped out trip into Miki's math! Coming down soon so check it out!

What is it? Is an experiment, but expect to see more of this type of stuff across our sims.

This photograph reflects how I feel at the moment.I am doing GCSE maths which I really don't like. I feel that the stress time and effort of doing this is sapping my creativity. In the scheme of things it's nothing.

Macro Mondays - Rule

A compass is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as tools to measure distances, in particular on maps. Compasses can be used for mathematics, drafting, navigation, and other purposes. (Wikipedia)

How fun - (or hard) would math scrabble be?! I think we should give it a go!

WAH is honoring RuthlessCrab today for her birthday! Her stream has lots of scrabble shots so am doing my take on scrabble in her honor. Happy birthday Ruth!!!

For all of you math nerds.

Some people say "Maths is Fun" but some say not. I think No-one is wrong because that is the way you look at it. I personally think "Maths is Fun"

Your math teach will look askance at you if you insist that two is greater than four, and for good reason. But I know of at least once situation where two (as in feet) really is greater than four (wheels). It is the math of snowpacalypse. I can also tell you that one stalled car plus one stalled car quickly equals infinity. Or there exponential relationship between inches of snow and time of travel. I love math, especially blizzard math.

Last year's snowfall was pretty incredible, an opinion no doubt influenced by the fact I was above the traffic, not in it. To be fair though, I chose to park well before I got caught in traffic and walk the rest of the way before things got too messy.

Will we get another such snowfall this year? I have heard predictions that claim we will, but I'm skeptical. This was a once-a-decade snowing for Portland, which isn't to say it won't happen two years in a row... but probability is an area of mathematics that I spend less time in. I can tell you though that if we do, the number of exposed rolls of film I will produce will be greater than zero.

A Cool Way To Like Math^^'

CHEF clabudak wants us to have fun with math and geometry!

➤ Your image must have an overall abstract quality

➤ It must include at least one human body part

➤ Also at least one geometrical shape

➤ And a mathematical or geometrical diagram and/or equation

➤ NO MONOTONES

Well, of course, I was wrong! I HAVE used math quite a bit in my lifetime. All the items pictured were from Pixabay. Text from Picsart.

If you have two indoor cats, and one outdoor cat, how many cats do you have all together? :D

(Camille is actually indoor/outdoor. She lived on her own outside for quite a while before she brought her kittens to us and moved in, so we let her have outdoor privileges in the daytime.)

I think they need some help ;)

Music is math. (phrase stolen from Boards of Canada)

Eventually.

Always.

It’s the synchronization of everything making perfect sense in an imperfect way.

It makes me feel.

It produces me a sense of well being but most important, it produces me a sense of self-destruction.

It’s too dual and powerful for me to handle

It’s like playing with fire. It’s like getting burn, it’s too intense so intense you will always remember.

It’s like your heart getting broken; not with you first love or your second, like your recent one

It’s always fresh on your mind and heart.

If you think you are not listening, listen closer.

The beats are counting the rhythm of the soundtrack of your life.

Each day, measure by measure, 4 times 4, second by second, it tells a different story.

A different act of the complete film you are living in.

And so music is, it’s there, next to you, producing your specific soundtrack depending on your mood, giving every second a difference sense of being, helping you modulate each day in a different direction and form to both your advantage and disadvantage.

We choose to listen.

We choose to interpret.

We choose to suffer or die of complete joy by her expense.

She is the language of emotions and meaning.

And as a language that it is, it has a concrete structure.

And as passionate human beings that we are, we avoid it.

We want to avoid what is obvious in us because it makes it more beautiful.

I disagree.

As the language and the structure that is.

As the colors it produces externally and internally in me, getting to know every single detail of such a powerful science would complete my mission in life.

Not producing it perfectly for me or others, there’s some that have guided their lives with the whole intention of achieving perfectness with interpreting.

I think, achieving that perfectness is by understating how to manipulate, how to control and exploit to the extreme joy or extreme sadness people’s feelings throughout music.

Its somehow, playing god.

But I think we are all gods.

All that has been touched by music has played to be god as a result of the basics, they don’t know exactly why but they do know they are moving people’s heart and most importantly their own.

Music keeps us going. I think.

Music keeps me going, and it will always be until I decide to stop to keep seeing it that way.

It’s not as the way people think it is, at the end, you know how things are they way they are inside you and by words you’ll never send the message completely.

Music is a perfect equation to make your life uncomplicatedly complicated.

La ‘mu psique’ est terrible, est magnifique, est belle, est la merde.

Comme vous.

imperfecta ma musique, Je t'aime.

This is taken from my cucumber plant its not brilliant i know but thought it quite fitting for Math in nature

26/15 is a very accurate (under 0.1%) approximation for sqrt(3). So hooray for maths.

Also... with a side-length S you can make:

equilateral tri - S=15

hexagon - S=15

septagon - S=21

octagon - S=12

nonagon - S=6

decagon - S=13
