I used to hate math in school. I was convinced I sucked at it. Now, with the help of my sweet gf, I discover... I don't! I enjoy that discovery very much and I discover all the things anew I used to despair over in school, including a lot of stuff I didn't learn in school.

Part (c) was the only question I couldn't get on my Math final this semester. Any help?

Here is the "first" math shelf set up to start the year.

Students settle down for maths class after recess. They are Syrian refugees, many of whom live in a nearby camp. In recent years, conflict had forced them from their homes. Many have had their education interrupted for years due to trauma and lack of resources. This donor‐funded school in Azraq, Jordan, built out of trailer‐like structures and located next to an air base, provides remedial classes to get students back on an age‐appropriate educational level. For the students, being at school also restores a sense of predictability, curiosity, and excitement, which has been crucial for healing.

Question time at the end of Maths Inspiration event, at the Theatre Royal, Bath. Event was great - particularly Simon Singh's talk on "Risks and Gambling".

My favorite story was about his Guardian Article about Katie Melua's lyrics on "Nine Million Bicycles", e.g. "We are 12 billion light-years from the edge" he pointed out that this wasn't right... anyhows in the end she did a version of that verse written by him.

Math Night

Shortly after entering, and right before going out on the broad st bridge, there was a large area with a small house like structure. Inside we discovered somebody had written some math equation, and had written out pi to 9 decimal places.

Me trying to explain an 8th grade level math word problem to my sister.

A l’occasion de sa venue le vendredi 25 septembre 2015 au Forum des mathématiques vivantes, une formation organisée à Lyon dans le cadre du Plan National de Formation et mise en œuvre par la Commission Française pour l’Enseignement des mathématiques (CFEM), Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, ministre de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche, a tenu à saluer la mise en place dès cette rentrée des engagements de la Stratégie Mathématiques, qu’elle avait annoncée le 4 décembre 2014.

L’objectif de cette stratégie d’une ampleur inédite est d’améliorer le niveau des élèves en mathématiques à travers des programmes actualisés, une formation des enseignants renforcée et une image des mathématiques rénovée pour donner le goût de cette matière aux élèves.
