MIDWAY, Ga. – Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District participated in a STEM Career Expo at Midway Middle School to encourage more than 800 students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). April 22, 2014. Corps team members Reggie Terry and Andre Wright from the Fort Stewart field office talked to kids about jobs available in the Corps of Engineers.

Street artist Banksy curated a gallery of subversive and satirical pieces based on theme parks. The gallery was located at Tropicana, itself a dismal shadow of its former self, a lido on the coast of the Severn Estuary at Weston-Super-Mare. Tropicana itself was closed around the turn of the 21st century, and has fallen into disrepair since. The installation was assembled largely in secret.
I was particularly amused by this section of graffiti in Jimmy Cauty's model village depicting some seemingly quite complicated maths.

My first teaching lesson. We reviewed basic shapes, found the shapes on a worksheet and colored them a certain color and matched food items with their appropriate shape on the worksheet.
This is Boy's surface, constructed with Orbit molecule units on loan from my school's chemistry department. Polygonal configuration deduced using Ken Brakke's Surface Evolver and an adaptation of the Bryant-Kusner parametrization. This construction was an integral component of my senior year math research.
I am very fond of this model, because a) the projective plane is cool, and b) this embedding has pretty trilateral symmetry. :)
When we were waiting in Line to see Anime Idols Final round we saw this painting and my friend made a comment about these painting not being nailed down and someone might steal them.
I took one look at it and saw all sorts of numbers and was like "No ones gonna want this its got math on it, looking at it hurts my brain." (I've had to have math the last 3 semesters in college and i'm rather tired of it) and she comes back with "Yeah, this painting sucks if i could pee upwards I'd pee on it." and i was like omg xDD

I suggested that Jae, our former math teacher and current nursing student, have her picture taken with this red bunch of "flowers" cause I thought it contrasted well with her outfit and face. It does, in fact, but I could tell she thought it was pretty silly. Jae strikes me as not being so into the "girly" thing. Which I can certainly respect. We can't communicate easily with each other, but I like her and I was glad to see her again since she doesn't teach at our school anymore.
Today I had the honor of being invited to my head teacher and friend Candice's pre-wedding photo studio appointment along with Bella and Jessica (the other two English teachers at our school) and Jae (the college student who used to be our math teacher). Candice's fiancee also came, but his friends were busy.
The purpose of the day was to take a series of posed photos in various rented dresses and staged locations that would go into a wedding album. There will also be another series of photos taken on the actual wedding day which, presumably, will go into a different wedding album!
The day started at 1 with Candice getting into make-up, then proceeded through a series of costume changes. The count was 4 different dresses at the time I left to meet my Portland friends at 6:30, but they were still going. Fueled by Americanos, a grape and tomato bowl and Dunkin Donuts, we followed Candice and her fiancee around, taking 100s of pictures (literally) and offering moral support (ee-buda - you're beautiful). While Candice was getting her initial make-up change we also took pictures of each other.
It was one of the most exhausting days I've had in a while (and that includes work) but I was touched to be invited and glad if I could help make Candice's day special in any way. The wedding will be near the end of May.
8th grade math help provides students with all the support required with solving problems. At Casey Elementary School on Camp Casey Jan. 14, students and parents take part in the school's second annual Math Madness workshop, which aimed to build math proficiency by using games and other activities to make the subject enjoyable for youngsters. In one of those activities, for example, competing groups had to use 20 strands of uncooked spaghetti and about a yard of masking tape to create the tallest possible structure that would support a marshmallow for at least 30 seconds without collapsing. - U.S. Army photo by Pfc. My math wall isn't super pretty, but the kids use it, and it does the job. It contains information from the 3 units we have covered so far, as well as math group rotations.

In Meany Hall, we stumbled on one of the activities of Math Day, an annual event for 1,200 high school students. The event aims to demonstrate to students how interesting math is and how it plays a role in so many areas of life. These students were participating in an activity with mathematical games.
