it’s not like you have to wait a month to complete a whole painting. So you can get an idea and give it a try and all of a sudden you might see some potential :-)

I'm not a spelunker, but sometimes I wish I was. Caves fascinate me. They transport me to a world so different to that of our surface-dwelling species, tens of thousands of years in the making.

These is the fascinating Mammoth Cave, a large limestone cave 21 km south of the town of Margaret River in south-western Western Australia. It lies within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and is surrounded by karri and marri forest. Over 10,000 fossils had at one time accumulated inside the cave; many of which were found to be remains of Australian Megafauna (giant animals) that became extinct around 46,000 years ago.

Stalagmites, stalactites & columns create scenes that are magical to me, like quiet sentinels of some ancient deep secrets held tightly within the earth. They fire my imagination.

Did anyone else like the Journey to the Centre of the Earth movie, the 1959 original, not the 2008 remake? I loved it as a kid. Except for the part where Gertrude the duck, well, you know, made his premature exit. And I love the Rick Wakeman Journey to the Centre of the Earth album. It's awesome to play through headphones while going to sleep and imagining being on the journey.

Anyway ... I wanted to open a bar inside these caves, but the police stopped me. They said it was illegal to sell alcohol to miners. I said you grotto be kidding me! So I asked would it be okay if I played music - rock music? They said no! Rather than get into a stalag-fight with them I caved in and left.

Happy Sunday out there :)

Unexpected tip to the Mammoth Cave, a large limestone cave 21 km south of the town of Margaret River in south-western Western Australia, and about 300 km south of Perth. It lies within the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park and is surrounded by Karri and Marri forest. Photo taken hand held so unfortunately it is not pin sharp.

Tomb of King Henry I of Castile, son and heir of Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of Plantagenet.

He died in Palencia in 1217 at the age of 13, after having suffered an intervention on his skull, trepanation, subsiquently the fall of a tile on his head, causing a fatal wound.

Upon his death, he was succeeded by his sister Doña Berenguela, who had been married to Alfonso IX of León, and who abdicated to her son Fernando III, who, already king of Castile, also became king of León upon the death of his father. This was the third and final union of the kingdoms of Castile and León.

The tomb had polychrome, but it has been lost over the years due to the humidity of the monastery.

The clothes worn by the king's corpse that were found in his tomb, despite it was plundered by Napoleon's troops, are displayed in the Museum of Medieval Fabrics located in the monastery.

Binomial name

Corymbia calophylla

Corymbia calophylla is a large and common tree in the southwest of Australia.

Originally described as a species of Eucalyptus, it was separated to a genus allied with the bloodwoods and their relations. Corymbia calophylla is commonly known as marri, a name derived from the Noongar language of Southwest Australia, in preference to the ambiguous red gum. The trunk responds to damage by insects by exuding a red, blood-like substance, a type of kino, that is able to be collected for a variety of uses. Able to establish itself as a very large tree, the fast growing species often colonises and out-competes other woody species in disturbed areas. The large green leaves of marri will create well-shaded areas that impede other plants' growth and a create a comfortable refuge or habitat for a large number of animals. The complex fissures and bark of the trunk and branches are also utilised by a diverse array of organisms.

The Marri Tree or White Gum is native to Western Australia and widely cultivated in the eastern states.

out of the mists of confusion and tragedy,

of pain and grief,

of lose and sadness,

the sun of truth,

will once more shine,

reminding us all we are one,

what falls on one,

falls on all,

patience in loss,

sharing in abundance,

both of the seen,

and the unseen.
