this is mark fearnley — someone whose work shaped the way i see lines, rhythm, and light on the street. he’s inspired countless photographers to look deeper, to shoot slower, and to embrace the poetry of everyday geometry. getting the chance to step behind the lens and capture him in this quiet moment was something special. a simple frame, but a meaningful one. proud to have taken this.
Shot it at Gangasagar Fair.Gangasagar Mela is the largest fair celebrated in West Bengal (INDIA). This fair is held where the Ganga and the Bay of Bengal form a nexus. Hence the name Gangasagar Mela. This festival is celebrated during January every year and is a major attraction for millions of pilgrims from all over India.
The pilgrims come for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti (last day of the Bengali Month) Negha -Mid January. They take dips in the Ganges and offer water to the Sun God. The dip, as they say, purifies their 'self' and according to them, 'punya' can be obtained thus. When they are done with the ritual obligations, they head towards the Kapilmuni Temple situated nearby, to worship the deity as a mark of respect......

Labor Day weekend is just around the corner and Toronto’s downtown Ryerson University campus has sprung to life with excitement. Activities are taking place every day to entertain the influx of students and kick off another academic year. I saw him helping set up tables full of condiments in front of the student centre and I was struck by his stylishly casual look with knit cap and round sunglasses. I stopped to ask about the event and he explained that a charity barbeque was going to take place within a half hour with the proceeds going to the homeless or the food bank. Lunches were only two dollars and they would also be accepting donations of canned foods. Meet Mark.
Noting that the light would be favorable for a portrait in the narrow gap between the two university buildings behind him, I told Mark about my Human Family photo project and said I thought he would make an excellent subject for a casual portrait. “Could you spare a couple of minutes to participate?” He said it shouldn’t be a problem since the event was not yet underway and his coworkers were present. “A couple of minutes wouldn’t be a problem” he said.
I directed him between the buildings and thought I might need to break out my reflector due to the strong backlight but decided to speed things along by skipping it. I think the reflector would have made the reflections in Mark’s glasses even more of a distraction. The only other issue I encounter was a sliver of bright sunlight which sneaked over the top of his head and illuminated his cheek. After my first photo, I asked him to tip his chin down slightly and it minimized the sliver of light. It was one of those details I used to never notice until I got home but it seems practice really does help. In the end, I liked the first photo which had the streak of light because of his smile so I tackled the streak in Photoshop later.
Conscious of the fact that I had taken him away from his duties, I expedited the conversation part of the encounter and learned that Mark is 27 and works in the student centre we were standing in front of. He’s involved in organizing events in the centre which serves as a venue for conferences and other professional gatherings as well as for student activities. Mark is a born and raised Torontonian, a status which is becoming more rare year by year. The most recent census showed that more than 50% of those living in Toronto were born outside Canada (including yours truly).
Mark told me that his main interests outside of work are music and basketball. He grinned from ear to ear when he mentioned these so I could tell that they are serious passions. “Would you care to share a challenge you have faced in life?” He thought for a moment and said “Well, I think it’s probably a pretty common challenge: making ends meet because although Toronto is a great city, it’s pretty expensive.” I had to agree with him on that. His message for the project? He delivered his message with a shrug and a smile. “Have an attitude of gratitude.”
It was great meeting you Mark. Thanks for taking a few minutes to introduce yourself and participate in my photo project. My own classes are about to resume soon so perhaps our paths will cross again on campus. I hope the charity bbq is a big success. This is my 530th submission to The Human Family Group on Flickr.

Built years before the MABILLE, this power suit lay the foundations for the suits as we know it today. Now considered as standard by many Bricksburg citizens, this suit features a quad cleaning brush system, cleaning and wiping in the same time. You may also have spotted its vacuum function, allowing the pilot to grab small detritus from the streets. It also features some belt equipments, in case of required on-foot operations.

"DECAUX" is the name of the french company and businessman who operated the infamous "motocrottes" in Paris in the end of the 1990s.

The Technicolor Mark Ten is a movie camera for super eight film cartridges. It's got an awesome 12-36mm 1:1.8 zoom lens, and it was made around 1966 or 67, which is no surprise since it looks like it's straight out of the original Star Trek series. There's not alot of information about this camera on the web, but one source says it was made by Minolta.

Mark Manders (1968) explores the quiet depths of human consciousness. The internationally acclaimed artist fixes thoughts and moments in sculptures, paintings and installations that hover between the tangible and the elusive. His oeuvre breathes a poetic tension: intimate and universal, concrete and mysterious. For his solo exhibition Mindstudy at Voorlinden, he brings together more than eighty works – both iconic and more recent pieces – which together form a layered journey through his world of thought.

At the highest point of the front facade of the Basilica di San Marco, stands the Apostle and Venice's Patron Saint... flanked by six golden winged angels.
Below the saint is a golden winged lion, symbol both of the saint and the city. The Lion holds open a book with the inscription: Pax Tibi Marce Evangelista Meus or "Peace to You, Mark My Evangelist".

...Upper Wilkes Creek Falls, discovered and taken beside Wilkes Road on an early, rainy Saturday morning...Last year, I began to explore what I ultimately discovered was a piece of Georgia mountain history lost in time, the Mark Trail Wilderness. This area stretches between Hwy's 17/75 North of Helen, Ga and Hwy 348, the Richard Russell Scenic Highway to the West and borders the Chattahoochee National Forest to the South. Years ago, there were lofty visions to build connecting forestry roads across the wilderness between these two highways, but it never happened. Numerous pioneer mountain roads, carved out across and over the ridge lines from centuries earlier, (including the old "Unicoi Turnpike") climb up and wind precariously all through the area, but 99% are gated. There are two significant campgrounds in the forest from the south and one main forestry road, the Upper Chattahoochee River Road (beginning as Poplar Stump Rd/Low Gap Road), starting out in the South and extending up into the heart of the wilderness to a gate about 1.2 miles from the Upper Chattahoochee River Campground, which years ago was a very popular and well engineered campground. Today it sits gated closed and overgrown and the main road leading to this campground is gated from both the South and the North. Several years ago a tornado ripped through the area, downed 100's of trees and gouged out deep ruts in the roads. A forestry sign (presumably from the 60's) still remains not far off the connecting forestry road (Wilkes Road) off of Hwys 17/75, but the road becomes increasingly, dangerously more narrower, with eroded sections of the outside of the road dropping off the steep side of the mountains. On 6/30/2020, I drove by Wilkes Rd on Hwy 17/75 just below Unicoi Gap, and the entrance to the road is now blocked with boulders and a mound (no doubt now impassable...I'm glad I drove it twice in 2019). Last year I drove the main forestry road from the South (beginning as Poplar Stump Rd) into the wilderness at least four times and hiked across many of the gated roads, most notably into the closed Upper Chattahoochee River Campground to Horse Trough Falls, not far from the rear of the campground. I remember some years back, travelling up Hwy 348 passing the Mark Trails Wilderness sign, beside the entrance of a forestry road, but today that road is gated and the forestry department took the sign down. As for the original planning intentions of the Mark Trail Wilderness, this perhaps is the classic example of "...Man proposes, Mother Nature disposes..." Today one thing is for certain...hikers, campers and photographers love `it, and by the way, the Appalachian Trail crosses right through it. Even though most of the roads are gated to 4 wheel traffic, the wilderness is still a great place to explore on foot.

This exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of this marvelous tomb.
I saw it 11 years ago, but I had to go back and see it once more.
