Nitric Acid is drip fed into the irrigation system to keep the pH correct.
The lighter patch on the concrete is where the Nitric Acid pipe exploded in Bob's face and all over the ground. He was so lucky not to lose his sight.
The park had a maple syrup demonstration going on, and were also selling Maryland maple syrup. We saw several of the trees being tapped. Pretty cool process!

The world's first naturally dwarf variety! Compact plants produce neat, basal rosettes from which emerge decorative, silver-blue stems that form into large, globular flower heads containing hundreds of small blue flowers. Ideal for adding interest to the front of borders or to containers. They are very good for seaside gardens, and will also thrive in chalky soil.
Eryngium is a genus in the family Apiaceae of about 230 species of annuals and perennials with hairless and usually spiny leaves, and dome-shaped umbels of flowers resembling those of thistles. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution, with the centre of diversity in South America.
Some species are native to rocky and coastal areas, but the majority are grassland plants. Common names include Sea-holly and Eryngo, the former typically being applied to coastal species, and the latter to grassland species.
Photographer Nick Whitman has been photographing this 140- to 175-year-old sugar maple tree in the Science Quad for a number of years. This winter, the tree was deemed unsafe and had to be removed. Students in Whitman's Winter Study course on landscape photography took these photos and created this tribute to the tree.
The course, "Landscape Photography," broadens students' appreciation for the appearance and history of the landscape and teaches the skills of making a successful photograph.

I planted this Schwedler Maple a number of years ago. It was just this Spring that I noticed it was full of flowers. I mean the whole tree was yellow and red---red for the beginning leaves and yellow for the blossoms. The leaves start off deep red and as the Summer moves on they turn to a greenish color.
This is an example of an extended depth of field composite. I took about six shots at various depths of field so that every part of the shot was in focus at least once---then I merged them in Photoshop CS5 to get all parts of the flower clump in focus. The white band in the middle is from the wild plum blooms that are in the background.
I used my Pentax K5 and Sigma 180mm macro to make this shot. Processing was done in Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS5.

Dangling 'helicopter' maple tree seeds in the rain.
Sorry for so many photos of very similar things. :-) Not much going on with more days of rain and thunderstorms so had to run outside in our front yard for a few quick photos.

The Maple tree in my front yard is almost at full bloom. Parts of it are still green but part of it is this awesome deep red.
