Who doesn't know the maple tree? Maple syrup, Toronto Maple Leafs, Canadian flag... Anyway, they are interesting to work with if you like painterly effects.

Things got much more intense in color, far in the back you can see the roses still blooming.
This is the Yoshikien Garden in Nara, Japan, known for its traditional architecture and tranquil landscape.
The thatched-roof building shown in the image is a detached teahouse (often referred to simply as the Chashitsu), which is part of the historic Former Shoboin Family Residence. The structure dates back to the Taisho era (built around 1919) and is designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Nara Prefecture. It features a traditional thatched roof, a dedicated water preparation room (mizuya), and multiple tatami rooms designed specifically for hosting traditional tea ceremonies. The garden is surrounded by a quiet garden with sunlight filtering through the trees and birds chirping, creating a sense of being in another world.
Sunlight on fallen autumn leaves on a hiking trail in the High Peaks Area of the Adirondack Mountains near Lake Placid, Upstate New York. The colorful autumn leaves make a nice pile on a hiking trail.
I think that autumn is often the best season for leaves. Whilst we all enjoy seeing new leaves in spring after the barren season of winter, it is in autumn that we get to notice all the fine veining, delicate textures and sharp edges of the leaves as they change colour and array themselves in their autumnal costumes of reds, browns, oranges and golds.
Autumn is now well and truly with us here in Melbourne, and the cooler winds of seasonal change are blowing away the remnants of summer, like it tosses the red, gold and orange leaves that carpet the ground.
The other day was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs. This includes these wonderful golden yellow English maple leaves which look like stars, tumbling from the sky.
These two Maple trees finally provided me with the red I have been looking for this fall. Now, I can move on...to what I don’t know. Any suggestions?
I think the tree on the far left may be a Sweet Gum because of its star shaped leaves.

Maple Grove...
This morning there was a heavy misty, white fog that settled all over the quiet streets of Brampton. I headed out as soon as the sun came up.ready for an adventure! the nearby fields were thick with the white mist and the low lying areas were completely socked in. As i made my way through the neighbourhood I began taking pictures of what i saw. this shot of a nearby field shrouded in fog was simply spectacular..

Deep in the woods an autumnal leaf (Red Maple; Acer rubrum) absorbs the sun's rays for the last time.........
The photo was taken while the leaf was still attached to the tree; the lens flare was caused by shooting into the light.

I know this looks more like an autumn capture, but it was taken just a few days ago in the middle of May. We call them Red Maples trees here and they have this lovely color all the way through summer and never turn green at all!

Today is last day of summer.
Past week the temperature dropped 5 degree C below the normal. We start seeing some beautiful fall colours. Hey, this is Canada ;)

I went for a wade today, this was one of the keepers. Lots of yellows and browns, but almost no red this year.
Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple which I caught just on the turn one on my walk yesterday.
Yesterday was an Indian summer day, an oddity between the colder rainy days. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions.
Just before sunset. A different shot. Such unusual lighting with a dark, blue sky. About as shot vertically. A bit of vertical straightening.

A female Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) all puffed up against the cold. Minus 15 here this morning with a wickedly cold wind taking it down to -20 something.
Wish I could bring all the birds inside where it's warm!

A Single Red Leaf...
A few weeks ago Karen and I made our way to the south end of Heart Lake Conservation Area; The fall is a fickle time. some years the leaves changing colours are okay and others they don't change much at all. some years they last for a long time others a sudden storm and strong winds and its all over.
This is probably the last weekend for shooting fall colours in southern Ontario, the colour display is off the charts, so may varied shades of red, yellow and burnt orange.
we were in the midst of the forest where we happened upon this spot where a tree trunk was almost obscured by yellow and gold leaves, right there in the middle of the trunk was a single red leaf. it really stood out from all the other leaves of yellow orange and gold.
