Autumn leaves on and below trees in the Maple Grove in Bodnant Garden (in the county borough of Conwy, northwestern Wales), on a partly cloudy afternoon in mid-October 2024.
Bodnant is an 80-acre National Trust garden located above the Conwy Valley, east of the River Conwy / River Conway (near the village of Eglwysbach, also spelled Eglwys-Bach or Eglwys-Fach [“Little Church”]). The name of this garden in Welsh is Gardd Bodnant. Like many large gardens in the care of the National Trust, it encompasses a refreshing variety of microhabitats and garden designs.
Bodnant was established as a Victorian garden by landowner Henry Davis Pochin (1824-1895), who worked with landscape architect Edward Milner (1819-1894) to design the space, making the most of the rich, partly sheltered woodland-friendly setting. The garden was then further developed by successive members of the McLaren family, whose heads have held the title Baron Aberconway, together with successive members of the Puddle family of head gardeners. The Italianate terraces were developed between 1904 and 1914. Henry McLaren, 2nd Baron Aberconway (1879-1953) turned the garden over to the National Trust in 1949 -- although the Bodnant estate, both house and garden, remain the property of Lord Aberconway.

This is from last year, spotted on our Sugar Beach, and this year we are very close to this level of autumn with splendid colours getting visible more and more here.

Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.

Our maple trees have lost almost all their leaves. I love the way they look when the light shines through them.
As seen one summer evening to one side of the maple trees that are in our front yard in Carmel, New York.
This is from one of the maple trees in our front yard. This tree has beautiful colors in the fall. I like to sit in the front room and just watch the light pass through it throughout the day.
I have taken 100's of photos of this tree over the years and never seem to capture its beauty.
We are lucky to see Cedar waxwings in the spring. When we see them there is usually a scout bird that shows up first then signals a larger group the the water garden's stream is a safe bathing location. Yesterday we saw a solitary waxwing attempting to get along with the many robins, blue jays, and sparrows around the stream. Even though we are at the edge of their 'year round' range, we rarely see them this late.
'Helicopter' seeds seem to appear overnight in our maple. The day before storms arrived.
Sorry for so many photos of very similar things. Not much going on with more days of rain and thunderstorms so had to run outside in our front yard for a few quick photos. Likely more redbud photos coming in the future. :)

We know return to our regularly scheduled program with fall foliage Friday. One small red maple stands out against at Beaver Dam Pond. A slight breeze breaks the reflection, but it's nice how it adds an extra layer. Acadia National Park, Maine, USA, October 2018

Every River seems to have it's own voice. Some Loud and in your face others a little more sedate. I've decide the Big Quil is somewhere in the middle. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Here's a male Rose-breasted grosbeak to say goodbye to the migration season. I made a new album of just birds seen here at the house and while I didn't see any outliers for early arrival, I do think several species have stayed longer this Spring. Unusually, both the Rose-breasted grosbeaks and the Orchard orioles have been around for almost a month. The weather has no doubt been a factor as has my patio confinement.
The Little Red Schoolhouse at the Lost Villages Museum. Gusty winds brought plenty of leaves down this day literally changing the landscape of southern Ontario. A lot more bare trees now.
I was driving on a quiet country road and looked in my rear view mirror and saw these colors coming through the very low clouds. Had to shoot it. :-)
Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), Kyoto, Japan
銀閣寺
Ginkakuji (銀閣寺, Silver Pavilion) is a Zen temple along Kyoto's eastern mountains (Higashiyama). In 1482, shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa built his retirement villa on the grounds of today's temple, modeling it after Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), his grandfather's retirement villa at the base of Kyoto's northern mountains (Kitayama). The villa was converted into a Zen temple after Yoshimasa's death in 1490.
Its grounds are an outstanding example of Japanese landscape architecture.
Despite its name, the Silver Pavilion was never covered in silver. Instead, it is believed that the name arose as a nickname more than a century after the building's construction to contrast it with the Golden Pavilion. Alternatively, it is explained that moon light reflecting on the building's dark exterior (which used to be covered in black lacquer in the past) gave it a silvery appearance.
Tofuku-ji Temple, which was founded in 1236, is the head temple of the Tofuku-ji School of Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism. Tofuku-ji Temple is one of the most popular spots for Kyoto's beautiful autumn foliage. The maple trees beside the Tsuten-kyo Bridge in the temple are its centerpiece.
