Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.
Winter has returned and actually there was no maple magic at the moment in those sap lines. A fun festival to attend and a winter walk in the sugar bush.

I once read that maple trees symbolize balance, promise and practicality. I'm fond of the notion that people specifically choose to plant these trees in order to call out to those specific traits and bring them into their lives.
The older I get, the more I see the need to cultivate these laudable traits. I've spent most of my life bulldogging my way to whatever goal I've set for myself. Photography is teaching me, slowly, that in order to tell a story I must sometimes tap into these other traits.
All a part of the journey, I guess.
We came across this old growth forest as we were out exploring the redwood groves. It was the most incredible experience hiking into this old growth maple forest. It reminded me of the old growth forests up in Olympics. The maples were were drenched with bright green moss along with the huge sword ferns covering the forest canopy. Who know how old this forest is. It was one of those magical places you didn’t want to leave.

During the past autumn season, I've been to many parks in Seattle and found quite several photogenic Japanese maple tress. This one is probably the most classic one that everyone photographs with the landscape orientation. This tree is truly unique in its shape and size compared to other Japanese maples trees. Here is my shot of it using a vertical orientation for a different perspective. I really like how the tree is shown in the frame and it looks like it is growing to reach the sky.
Growing up we had several of these Japanese Maples in our yard that I helped to care for and learn from. I've always been fascinated by these trees, but I've never really taken the time to photograph them. That changed this year. This is the first of a series of Maple and intimate fall images that I will be releasing throughout the remainder of the year.

this tree/trees (not really sure it's one being below ground or what) has definitely seen some wear and tear, but it's the most productive tree in our meagre sugar bush. we've got 4 taps on it now (each on a different trunk) and she just flows and flows....

I have a maple tree where the top is dying off. Some of the roots are also exposed. I haven't see this type of fungus before this morning. A quick internet search came up with Armillaria tabescens (or Armillaria mellea).
A late autumn leaf is soaked under droplets of a newly fallen rain.
