This Tufted titmouse (Baeolophus bicolor) gives me an over the shoulder look after enjoying some safflower seeds at the feeder. It as well as other birds take one seed at a time, fly to the Maple tree's branches, place the seed between its toes, and peck to open the husk. It is great fun to watch them attack the seeds.
Wandiligong is a town in north-eastern Victoria in the alpine region around 330 kilometres from Melbourne. Established in the 1850s as part of the Victorian Gold Rush, Wandiligong became a hub for many gold miners, including a large Chinese community. At its peak, the town was home to over two thousand inhabitants and boasted shops, churches, a public library, halls and even an hotel. Much has changed since those heady days of the gold rush, and the picturesque town nestled in a valley and built around the Morses Creek, is now a sleepy little town full of picturesque houses which are often let to visitors to the area. The whole town is registered with the National Trust of Australia for its historic landscape and buildings of historic value.
Photographing Japanese maple trees with peak fall color has become an annual ceremony for me. I absolutely love how these amazing trees look. Their branches and shapes seem purely magical. More autumn photos to come!

My wife and I witnessed this 'discussion' between two male Downy woodpeckers (Dryobates pubescens), outside our window this morning. I have just over 5 minutes of their posturing and noise although we didn't hear much from inside. I don't know if this was territorial or something else. The limbs of the almost bare maple tree afforded a busy view and not as sharp as I would like. I certainly need to clean the windows.

I love the colours of Maple trees in Autumn, they are so varied. These grow by Oxford station. I took this photograph just as they had started to turn colour late one afternoon in September with the light behind them.

Winter with little snow, many cloudy days and living in an urban environment makes taking outdoor photos on a regular basis a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, keeping one's eyes peeled these little gems is worthwhile
After nearly an hour of holding court at the pond, a bath, and several hundred exposures, this sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus) preened and dried in the maple tree.
I'd apologize for rural overkill, but these are the scenes that speak loudest to me.
This is overlooking a farm just a few miles from where I grew up. I've always enjoyed the view from here.
We are now first day September. In 20 days the end of summer and the start of autumn. These autumn leafs will eventually fall and change colour to red and yellow. I found one fallen and several red so recently, August 30. Autumn in Canada delivers one of the best foliage feasts in the world. Towards the end of September through to end October, the autumn landscape is a bounty of colour as yellow birch, maples, pines, cedars, elms packs, spruce and larch trees change colours. I hope to access these too.
