Went for a weekend away down south and went to the National Arboretum. It's a great time of year to go, they've got lots of Japanese Maples that are a variety of amazing colours in the autumn.
Carried 15 logs of maple from their resting place up to our terrace. Only about 150 meters. Some I could carry two at a time, others had to be carried by themselves. Heavy work it was.
There are several of these beautiful red maples at Jouken-ji (常堅寺). Just as pretty as the Fall variety!
The base off the tree. It is surround by fallen leaves. The tree stump is elevated by about 15 inches. Moss and mushrooms can be seen on stump. The Red maple is growing on something that looks like a bump in the ground. It is elevated about 12-14 inches over trees and plants in a the area within about 4-6 feet. The interesting thing is there is a lot of growing trees on this elevated bump. A lot more then other areas in this location
