I was looking through my photos and came across these from when the red maple in the front lawn was coming out this spring. So lovely the color of the leaves.
This is a journey in the life of a tired old dresser, and it's taller mate, along with a pair of nightstands and a mirror and frame to fit this dresser, from the starting point of stripping it all down to bare wood, and sanding smooth to remove all of the damage that the years of neglect have left upon them. The client wants to use these pieces which she so fondly remembers from her Grandmothers Home, in her newly rebuilt home as Guest Room Furniture, and wants these lovely Maple Solid Wood Pieces to be colored to a Dark Walnut Finish! Not at all an easy task! Stained as dark as they would go, then colored lacquer is added to make it just the right shade of wonderful! Polyurethane 3 coats to top it all off and make it wear better!
One of few species in our region that turn red in the fall. We typically have a two- or three-week window where the leaves turn this colour before the October winds blow them off the trees.

#6. We don't get colors like this in Panama City. I've been walking around all day in awe.
The maple leaf is of course associated with Canada and is on her flag, however many varieties of the tree will grow in other parts of the world wherever the climate suits them. In Australia, they'll grow in the southern states and do especially well in the cooler mountain areas where they show their finest colours each Autumn (Fall).
Some keen amateur growers in the island state of Tasmania, produce their own syrup where that variety of the maple will grow in the coldest areas.
